Hi all,
Lightspin had posted former posts from "the other place" and they are no longer here.
Does anyone know where they went?
How did Lightspin ge ahold of the former posts?

Thanks for providing us with a place to go. I too felt like a "fish out of water" for days.

Peace

I don't know where they went, but I have a feeling that since there are so many new posts that they have been pushed into a holding pattern somewhere.

The threads were ones that I saved prior to "you know where" disappearing.

I'm guessing it be unpolitic to say they were deleted.

No - they weren't deleted by some mysterious force or by some unresponsive management entity :)

I think what may have happened is that they were *auto-purged* by the system - there's a flag that you can set that deletes posts that haven't been responded to after 7 days - and I think those posts *may* have been set to be auto deleted. :(

This then begs the question - "what about The Backups" - HA! We haven't had time to set all that up yet - sorry.

Go ahead and repost them if you have them - this time we'll flag them as *sticky* which means they *stick around* and don't get auto deleted.

Sorry for any inconveninece and we'll do everything we can to make sure they aren't deleted this time around.

Don't ya just love computers? (Don't answer that)

There may some virtue in letting topics auto-expire. It's not like what's being discussed has much lasting importance. Besides, after lurking on the "other" site, I get the feeling these instructors like to argue the same things over and over. Letting the old arguments expire would keep things fresh, imho.

Quoting myself ... :D

Each forum has a flag for "auto pruning" - which is set "out of the box" as follows:
Auto-pruning _X_ Enabled
Remove topics that have not been posted to in _7__ Days
Check for topic age every _1__ Days

So I went in and disabled it. There's educational value in keeping the threads, as they can be searched on. This adds research value to each of the forums as the numbers of posts build on the site.

I agree with the value of keeping threads for educational value. I use the forum in spurts. When I have a lot of time to hang out here I like to search various topics to see what I have missed. Or if I am looking for something specific that doesn't happen to be a current thread, it's nice to find it.
