one of my students asked me about cycling shoes.
i do have several pairs which i use in the cages.
i love cycling shoes , they are nice and hard and great for the
feet. i have never had a problem and i am a fan of shimanos.
i suggested shimanos to this student and she got a pair over the weekend, however , after the ride she complained that the inner arch was hurting. i suggested that maybe she had them tied too tight
and were too small. i did experience pain in that area when i bought a pair that was too small once.
does anyone have any suggestions for me to give to her.
i am not an expert on cycling shoes at all.

I'll admit that I am not an expert on cycling shoes, but from personal experience I have had the same problem with my Shimanos. I have velcro instead of laces. I find that when I strap in too tight, my arches hurt too. I also noticed that a stiffer sole helps. Maybe the cycling shop where he/she purchased them might have some advice to offer.

Shimano makes many different models of shoe; my husband bought the sneaker-style gray and black pair that so many Spinning participants use and after a short time, bought a pair of Sidis to replace them. Said the Shimanos were too soft through the sole and shank and that they made his feet hurt during Spinning. He doesn't mind riding in them outside, where he's in the saddle more...it's all the standing in Spinning. I don't think that model Shimano offers enough of a platform for the foot.
