After reading the other profile thread I thought it best to start over. Why ?

Because here was a person asking a simple question about profile's, that turned into a 40 plus reply post mostly as condescending or pompous opinions.

Note to group : Get off of your high horses, instruct, be safe, take it
serious, and try to get folks to make fitness a way of life.
Get it : Fitness for them not full classes for you should be the focus. And
the fact of the matter is more of them and less of you is a good
thing.
Now thats my rant. Your opinion would be much appreciated on another post. If possibly we could leave this topic for potential profiles.

I will begin with a loop ride that we have used many times.

5 minute warm up

4 movements seated flat seated climb standing flat standing climb

1st loop 15 seconds per movement
2nd loop 30 seconds per movement
3rd loop 45 seconds per movement
4th loop 60 seconds per movement
5th loop 75 seconds per movement
6th loop 90 seconds per movement
7th loop 75 seconds per movement
8th loop 60 seconds per movement
9th loop 45 seconds per movement
10th loop 30 seconds per movement

5 minutes cool down total time 45 minutes

Some notes: For veteran riders you could encourage to try standing flat with same gear as seated climb. Focal point of ride is loops 5,6, and 7. During those loops its also okay to add resistance as you work thru each movement, as opposed to loading the gear only at the beginning of a specific movement. Music is pretty insignificant, use what the riders like.
This is a ride for the masses because the time increments are short, the seated flat becomes a recovery as the ride progresses and there is not a lot of time spent consecutively in a given position.

Good health to you all

Thanks for bringing us back to point here.

I use a similar loop, but at the top, I throw in a short (under 2 minute) song for those who want to max out with a couple short runs. Then we start down the loop, decreasing our time.

Have any of you heard of a "reverse pyramid"? I have vague notes on that type of profile and was trying to figure it out. There are 6 blocks and each is 6minutes long. Anyone?

I took "Pyramids" at WSSC Miami in where the pyramid on the way up each block is 6 minutes long, but the decent is 3 blocks each 2 minutes long. Let me know if this sounds like it.

Thanks tex but that's not it...each block is 6 minutes.
Block 1 - 1min/5min
Block 2 - 2min/4min
Block 3 - 3min/3min
Block 4 - 4min/2mi
Block 5 - 5min/1min
I don't know why that's all I wrote down...no hr info and no terrain!

THANK YOU Y-GUY!!!!
Whew!
I appreciate the profiles posted. I'd like to share one too.
A very talented and knowledgeable MI suggested an "Out and Back" profile (thanks Curt). I put one together and I knew it would be challenging but OMG! Most of the songs I used were about 3 1/2 minutes long (one song, one movement). I have about 50% of the class wearing monitors so I ask them to decide where they want to go and execute accordingly.
Going OUT-
Warm-up
seated surge/jumps/standing run/ standing climb/ jumps on a hill/seated climb
Coming Back-
jumps on hill/standing climb
standing run'jumps' seated surge
flat road cooldown
(While jumping, I try to queue them to take a certain amount of full breaths before they stand or sit--i.e. not popcorn jumps).

Very predictable, very effective, very challenging!

Peace :D

I've ridden your profile (with my personal "spin" on it) 2 classes in a row.

I LOVE pyramids as it is, but I loved this profile!! My students did too. Thanks so much for sharing - things seemed to "click" with this.
