View Full Version : The Big Finish!

I'm wondering if y'all have some other songs that come to mind which fit
this same format.

I do a class I call "Big Finish" (no, its not a tribut to Magnus Backstedt...)

I use songs that have an ending that is more aggressive/intense/fast than the main body of the song. I use this class as a way to help people understand certain "positions" or techniques on the bike. We spend the first part of the song "learning" or practicing the technique, and then at the "big finish" we execute. It works great for newbies to sort of isolate and focus on the different positions, while experienced riders can really set themselves up for some maximum mid-length efforts.

Here is the profile:

**********
Mandle Groove (Blue Man) Warm Up 5:50
Magic Carpet Ride (remix???) Warm Up 3:40

Paradise City (GnR) Standing Moderate Climb 6:45 (1:45 Big Finish)

Smooth Criminal (AlienAntFarm) Speed 3:30 (1:00 Big Finish)

Who'sGotMyBack? (Creed) Standing Heavy Climb 8:20 (1:30)

Suite Madame Blue (Styx) Seated Mod/Heavy Climb 6:30 (2:00)

Free Bird (Skynnard) Tempo/Flat Road 10:00 (4:30)

Then Cool Down.
*********

I use the first 30 seconds or so of each song to explain/review the technique to be performed, then do a few gradually increasing practice runs (like 15-30 seconds each) just to get the legs ready, and then get one last good recovery before the actual finishing effort.

Ideas, additions, suggestions, anyone???

What about No More Drama (Thunderpuss Club Mix) by Mary Blige ~9:07~ it's a slow build but cranks up pretty good at the end!!! This sounds like a great theme/concept - I am always looking for ways to provide variety along with a safe, effective workout!

Thanks!

Kinda old school, but Guns & Roses has a lot of songs that build up like that. Paradise City, Welcome to the Jungle, or November Rain come to mind.

For the present, I haven't heard a better finishing song than "Rise" from Safri Duo.

Hey Andy.... Thanks for the correction. I wasn't sure, but it was close enough for the joke to work, I suppose.

Think he has a chance to do some good things this year?

Well... I guess you could call that a "good thing"! Hooray for Magnus.

Too bad for Museeuw to end with a puncture, but it was a sweet finish for all, I think.
