Just curious... I've seen many people do it. I've done it myself. I find it a nice change, and a very nice way to stretch things out. Most importantly, I feel it sets my body in a position similar to an aerobar postition (minus the centering of the arms)... placing my hips/glutes/hams in a familiar position for cranking big power.

I'm wondering what y'alls feelings are on this...does it make sense that the muscles, once trained to work in this position, would work better there than a more "upright" position? I FEEL stronger there... I can often push the cranks faster there... seems to make sense to me.

Of course... I try not to let it happen while teaching... though I don't mind if an experienced member does it, if they find it comfortable.

Thanks.

REX...MY MAN!

Just kidding about my subject line. Actually, I've gotten away from cueing hand positions altogether (I know...COMMUNIST!).

I'm 6'4" with arms like an APE, so I frequently find myself using HP3 in the saddle. With so many different body sizes and types in class, I try to focus more on BALANCE and CENTER OF GRAVITY. I talk about keeping the center of gravity over the pedals, and supporting your body with your core or ab muscles. (No, I don't tell them to keep their abs tight the whole time...and I don't recommend it) If I see people stretching out in the saddle, I cue things like, "BEND AT YOUR WAIST, NOT YOUR UPPER BACK"....."KEEP THAT UPPER BODY RELAXED"......"MAKE SURE YOUR HEAD IS UP TO KEEP THAT OXYGEN FLOW GOING".........."SHIFT YOUR WEIGHT BACK IN THE SADDLE JUST FAR ENOUGH TO TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF YOUR HANDS"

Honestly, I'd rather see someone in HP3 than resting their elbows on the handlebars.
