View Full Version : Warmup Songs
I am looking for some good new songs to start class with. I generally play a lot of classic rock and 80's/90's songs. Anyone care to share their favorite warmup songs???
THANKS.

All Things Just Keep Getting Better (Widelife with Simone Denny)
Welcome to the Jungle (Guns 'n Roses, opening to Jim Rome Show)

Here are some that I've used:
Girlfriend- Matthew Sweet
Feel Your Love Tonight- Van Halen
She's So Cold- Rolling Stones
Terra Firma- Delerium
Bitch- Rolling Stones
All the Girls Love Alice- Elton John
Bicycle Race- Queen (to set the tone!)
The Only One I Know- Charlatans UK
Son of Detroit- Kid Rock
Call Me the Breeze- Lynyrd Skynyrd
Don't Change- INXS
Send Your Love- Sting
Comment...I prefer instrumentals for warm-ups. I find lyrics get in the way of opening remarks about the goals for the ride and what the participants should expect.
Best warm-ups for me are:
North 1 & 2 - Afro-Celt
Children - Robert miles
Salva mea - Faithless
Take the long way home - Faithless
Baya baya - Safri Duo
At the end (Remix) - Ilo
I'm not that picky about an instrumental for the first 5 minutes or so. I want something to just gather some rhythm and feel like something is on the horizon.

For warm ups, I pretty much have used anything from Robert Miles. My favorites are Children, Rain, In the Dawn. I've also used Star Guitar from Chemical Brothers, Rose Rouge and Jungle Jazz from St. Germain, Viva from the female group Bond, and Saltwater by Chicane (awsome!!!!)
I hope these selections are helpful.....Linda

Mc: Do you have a clean version of In Da Club? I always wanted to use it but I have been afraid of offending people.

Hey Guest -- yes, I have the 'radio edit' of In Da Club ... works well.
I do have some songs with 'explicit lyrics' and I will warn my classes that "this class is rated PG-13 or R" ... I've found that I can time my remarks to the class so that I'm 'speaking over' certain lyrics. That strategy has worked well -- no complaints to date.

"Ride Like The Wind" - Christopher Cross
I just used it for the first time this morning and it really set the tone. Plus it showcases the sweet sounds of Michael McDonald singing backup. But then again, he sang backup on just about every other song on the radio during that era. There's your music trivia for the day, if anyone cares.
Just don't try using "Arthur's Theme" or you'll get caught between the moon and NYC!!! 8)
