How windy is "windy" to a cyclist? What kinds of winds are you used to?
(Ok that was two questions...)

I generally don't start whining about the wind until it gets over 20mph. That said, i DID whine about a 10mph headwind last year when, after riding 100 miles into it, it changed directions when I did and it was in my face for the ride home.

Honestly, anything above a breeze is annoying to me. But to be considered an ordeal in my book, about 15mph is needed. Utah isn't known for its winds.
I once rode through a dust devil though. That was cool.

I hear ya Lynn! Unfortunately, OK is known for wind. This makes me feel much better though. When I did that hilly route on Sunday we had a 20 mph wind on top of it.
Maybe I can do this afterall... :)
Thanks for replying!

OOOOOOO-Klahoma, where the wind comes screaming down the plains!
I spent three years in Altus one Summer. (Nice enough place but it's too small to visit for a long time. Terrific steaks in Blair though!)

Hey Lynn -
I STILL live in Altus (have for about 8 years now). Hubby & I have started riding our bikes everywhere on base, and have parked the vehicles. We went riding the other day, I SWEAR to you the wind was blowing from all 4 corners ... at about 20 mph. We were cheering ourselves on - "well, at least the ride back will be better!" HELL NO!! We turned around, and it's still in our face.
Oklahoma ... the only state where the wind blows 4 directions at once. No wonder I call it "the armpit of the nation."
We've put in a request for New Mexico (we're military); maybe they have normal weather there.
