View Full Version : Hot Spot
This appears wierd to me. I use the same shoes for Spinning and riding outside. I took out my new bike for a longer ride for the first time yesterday and when I got off, I had the "Hot spot" ache in the ball of my foot. I never get it from indoors and i do have the clip moved back off the ball.
Should I change the clip on the bike (outdoor) to an alternative method? What could cause this. I didn't stand at all outside and it hurts, but when I stand indoors, no problem.
Any thoughts?

Hey AC,
are your shoes snug enough?

I'm sure you meant too snug, Meg.
AC, I'm guessing your outdoor ride was longer than the typical sub-hour duration of indoors. The most common cause for "hotfoot" is a tight shoe.
Try this next time: start with your shoe laced and/or strapped loose enough to move your feet around in them. I'm willing to bet you dollars to donuts that at the end of the ride, the shoes will be snug.
Also, during the ride, if you feel the hot spot starting, try curling your toes on the upstroke. This will help to relieve the pressure on the ball of the foot.

The shoes are just a little snug, but I thought they would stretch a little....there a fabric ATB shoe, not a road shoe with laces.
I am looking for a retailer that sells the LeMond wedge....thanx guys.

Unfortunately, fabric doesn't stretch like leather does. Depending on how snug your shoes are, you might try replacing the exising insole with a metatarsal pad. http://www.footsmart.com/ProductList.aspx?productCategoryId=54
Left unchecked, "hotfoot" can lead to the development of a Morton's neuroma. I'll leave it you to do the Googling about it. Suffice it to say, the endstage usually requires surgery to relieve the pain.
I think a better fitting shoe is my next move. These will be on EBay this afternoon. They were a nice looking pair of Adidas ATB shoes.
Any of you who are size 8 or 9 or 10 don't know how lucky you are.
