Howdy.
DH and I are doing the MS-150 again this year on June 9 and 10th. Was going to start training this weekend but this darn cold front came through the East! Stupid weather! DH went and got re-fitted on his road and trail bike, and I have to make my appointment to get in there as well! I'm so excited to get back out there and RIDE! Can't wait! It's getting closer.....

I'm signed up for the MS150 here too - This will be my 8th year. Ours is in July, the weekend after the Quadzilla, so I'll be taking it as a recovery ride, but make a point of never missing it.
Also doing the Tour de Cure for Diabetes on June 9th - my first time as a team captain. We're up to 20 people after they all get entered into the computer!

Good for you Lizard-man! Wow-your 9th year for the MS-150: Congrats! I'm only on my third but hope to continue for many, many more years to come. It's wonderful to be able to help those who are less fortunate than we are, and to really feel like you are making a difference in the lives of others!

I love to take my love of cycling and use it to help others doing as many charity rides as I can and dedicating non-charity races to charities - win-win in my books. Or someone (don't know who) said it much better than me...
To love what you do and feel that it matters - how could anything be more fun? :D

Hi, Lizard -
We're neighbors. . . and I'll be on that MS ride out of Millersville in July as well (with the Capital Blue Cross team). Hard to imagine we're ever going to have hot-weather riding today, though.
While most of my riding is on the east shore, I've spent more time out of Mechanicsburg these past six months - nice riding out there, quite a bit different than this area.
Perhaps our paths will cross one day . . .

Most definitely! I'm sure we'll cross sometime during the MS150 - just look for a guy on Team Giant with my avatar tattooed on his left leg - that would be me :D Most of my practice rides launch either from Dillsburg or Carlisle, but the routes do sprawl out quite a ways, so you never know.
Hopefully the weather will start cooperating for some better training!

The weather forecast is improving thru the week. . . no good for evening rides til at least Wed. or Thurs., but the weekend looks good so far. I've been riding all winter, so anything over 50 is a bonus to me at this point, as long as it isn't windy.
While I don't know the routes very well out of Mechanicsburg, we do venture out past Carlisle. . . up King's Gap. . . to Shippensburg. . . and last time I was out there was up Whiskey Springs. Nice climbs.
You doing the State Police Metric on the 28th? It's a good route, lots of rollers and a couple of decent climbs - and nicely supported.
Brrrrrr, listen to the wind out there!!! At least it isn't snow. . .

Kings Gap & Whiskey Springs are in my stomping grounds! I live about 3.5 miles on the Dillsburg side of Whiskey Springs - I take Whiskey Springs when I ride my bike to work in Carlisle. There's another nice climb near Whiskey Springs up White Rock Acres - if you're interested I can pm better details. My favorite training route if I go north is over Whiskey Springs, Doubling Gap, over to Ickisburg, over Tuscarora Mtn, double back over then over Waggoners Gap, Sterretts Gap, Waggoner's a 2nd time, then back over Whiskey Springs. About as much climbing as you can fit into one ride.
Won't be doing the State Police Metric, as I'll be participating in a Cycle-a-thon for breast cancer awareness at the Carlisle Gold's Gym.
If you like King's Gap, you'd love the Tour de Cure ride on June 9th. It starts near Boiling Springs, and if you do the metric century King's Gap is part of the route. One of the rest stops on the metric will be catered by a very nice restaurant too. Our gym put together a little team for the Tour de Cure, so if you're interested in doing the ride, you're welcome to join our team and get a cool shirt. Just go to the Tour de Cure website and look for Golds Gym Carlisle team.
With the winds that are out there today don't know if I want to drive my car, let alone venture out on my bike!!!

I adore my Cannondale; it gets me wherever I need to go :)
And that training route Liz is describing - whooooa! Liz, you're hitting all the best west shore climbs in one ride - awesome. How many total feet of climbing is that ride?

Last time I did it with a gps I recorded around 13,500 ft for the 134 mile loop. I have yet to do the loop with CalII as this is my first season with my new Six13. For the past 7 years or so I've been riding my faithful Cad3 frame, fondly named Excalibur. We have high expectations this season to say the least :D

400 mile ride around the Finger Lakes - a RAAM qualifier. I'm taking two shots at qualifying this season - Quadzilla in July and the ADK540 in September. Won't be able to actually compete in RAAM until 2010 when both of my boys are in college, but this is the first year that qualifying would be valid for 2010.

So Meg, next time you're in MD, bring the bike along - we'll have a c'dale fest (although I'm not sure about Lizard's 13,500 ft/climbing route this early in the spring. Just a couple of those climbs he mentioned are a good challenge.)
What happens when I drop the money down on that Serotta I've been coveting? Am I out of the club?

Beth, Beth, Beth....
The Serotta will never love you like a Cannondale. You'll get your thrills from the other bike, but it will only be superficial. When you're on your last legs of a long hard ride with one last climb to go, the Cannondale will pull that inner strength from you and get you up and over and back home again with both of you smiling from the great ride you shared, and both of you stronger for sharing the ride together. Will the other bike do that, or will it just suck the energy out of you to get you home, leaving you an empty spent human shell.
If you must get a companion for your Cannondale, there are plenty of other Cannondales out there looking for a good home.

Wow, I'm feelin' the C'dale love here . . .
Forgive me for having impure thoughts about the super snazzy Serotta custom geometry CDA  As long as I don't walk through the door over at Holmes, I'm safe. I won't even test ride the floor model they have there right now, for fear that I won't be able to get it out of my mind. And a $3M+ ride is just not in the budget this year.
My Cannondale will always be my favorite, I promise.

Cannondale love is something that cannot be fully described but it's real. If I had to choose between another brand bike and a Cannondale, I'd rather ride my original Cad3 than a carbon / titanium / fill in your favorite exotic material without the big C on the front and "Handmade in the USA" on the rear triangle. Obsession? Yep. Worried about it? Nope. Ya just gotta love and accept me for who I am, just like my Cannondales do. :D

So what you're both saying is, and correct me if I'm wrong, but. . .
I should continue to love and cherish my Cannondale (I will), I should remain true to the Cannondale legacy (I will, I'm just flirting with the S-e-r-o-t-t-a), and if I can get my hands on a new System 6 I should steal it and then . . .
Ride It Like I Stole It.
I'll let you know how that goes

Now you got it!!!! Even if you win the lottery and buy the System Six legally, you can still ride it like you stole it!
BTW if it's not a Cannondale, it's a squirrel. I wouldn't flirt with a squirrel - might have rabies.
