Shannon I'd love it. I have been saying next year for way too many years now - no babysitter, I'm too new, we don't travel enough as a family how could I justify this, timing is not right. I think that next year I will jump in with 2 feet and plunge right in. Besides I really want to see all of you face to face already. It's killing me.

Wholeheartedly agree -- about the no-sites, not the jello! If anything has been proven this past week, it's that the vehicle isn't important -- it's the friendships that call the shots. I am humbled as how we, as a collective force, just steam-rolled over anything that tried to get in our way. I live for my friends. Thanks, all!

Joy, the reason I can't go to WSSC is that there is an ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) meeting in New Orleans that same week. I have not gone to ACSM the last two years b/c of WSSC, but now that I am a doc student, I have to go. It'll be cool, but not like WSSC. It hurts that I'm not going, I already miss everyone!
I wish they would move WSSC back into May a bit, since the timing worked better for ME, but I'll just have to see how it works out from now on. ACSM is always this same week. Maybe next year I'll just have to be away from home for 10 days or so...

Quick question......which is the best airport to fly into.....Miami, Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach.
Never been to Miami before and folk who have reckon that the car drive from the other two beats the zoo at Miami

I've always flown into Miami, I think the cab fare from Ft Lauderdale is pretty high (I know some here have flown in from there, Cheeze I think), don't know if the lower price to fly in there is worth it.
I don't really wanna spend too much time in a cab down there, I stress out with their driving!!!! But hey you're from NY, so it's probably nothing you're not used to! :P

I've landed at both Miami & Ft Lauderdale Airports. The Miami Airport is only 6 or 7 miles away from downtown and obviously is the most convenient. However, it almost always costs more to fly into Miami Airport than Ft Lauderdale. Also both Jet Blue & Southwest only fly into Ft Lauderdale, which makes it the airport of choice for budget minded travelers like myself.
The Ft Lauderdale Airport is a little more than 20 miles from downtown Miami. Rather than take a taxi, consider taking an airport shuttle van instead. There are a number of airport shuttle companies that will take you to the hotel for under $20 and they'll usually get you there in around 30 minutes or so depending on the time of day.
I've never flown into West Palm, but the fact that it's over 65 miles away from downtown Miami would make it too much of a hassle IMHO.

It's kind of a waste of money to go before getting a certified, unless you want the social aspect...You can get certified locally and you don't need to go for 2 years after that, unless you want the social aspect.
But, by all means, spend a grand to fly cross country in June to sit indoors on stationary bikes for 3 days....whoopee!!!

It blows my mind how much I've learned on this forum. If I can learn half of what I've learned here at the WSSC (hopefully I'll be going, still waiting to find out) it will be worth the money. One way to look at it is that it's payment for education and fun at the WSSC but also for all we can learn all year long by just clicking on the computer. The education I've received on this forum is so valuable, and yet, I haven't had to pay one penny for it! Thank you to all of you who so willingly and happily share your knowledge.

M
Here is what I suggest:
Enough riding clothes for each session you ride or at least enough to be able to get through a day or two while you wash out your used stuff. You can wash it out in the sink. I found the easy way to dry the stuff is to wring it out as best as you can then place a towel flat on the floor or bed. Next place your jresey or shorts on the towel. Roll the towel up as if you were going to wring it out and then let the clothes hang somewhere where they will dry.
Pack some warm clothes such as sweatshirts and sweat pants for lectures. Sometimes the AC can really put a chill into the room (not the guy that posts here but it could apply if you get on his bad side :P ) .
Bathing suit for pool.
Casual clothes for going out to dinner after the conference.
A good attitued.
You can pick up food at a local food mart or at Wallgreens for lunches. The hotel food is way overpriced ($4 for an orange). Last year Cheese and I bought styrofoam coolers for the room. It was the best $2.99 I spent. If you have special energy bars or gell, bring those because Wallgreens doesn't have them.
There are a lot of small shops and resturants near the conference hotel so you should be able to pick up anything you foget.

I just checked it out yesterday and if you don't mind a little bit of a walk, there are two Publix supermarkets that are each about a mile away from the IC Hotel.
One is located in the Brickell Village area:
134 SW 13th St (305) 860-2280
The other is by the Miami River:
311 SW 7th St (305) 860-9477
Maybe some of the Miami locals know of other stores that might be a little closer to the hotel.

It looks like you might be able to take one of the free automated Metro Mover trains that are run on the elevated tracks to either location.
