So it's almost mid April, basically 6 weeks out from leaving. For those who are going to WSSC and wish to participate in a CD exchange, now is the time to pipe up and start thinking about socking away those "gems" (meaning you might not want to post them, since we might be tempted to download  ).

Same as last year, no real rules, just whtever you wanna stick on an audio cd, or as mp3's. No profile needed. Just the tunes.

Let the hunt begin
(copy and paste your name if your game)

BTW...don't worry, I'll figure out as we get closer how we'll connect in the lobby. :D

Great idea again... however, I doubt I could provide so many good tunes that you all don't already have. I get much of my music from here. I always think that when I "find" something, that the rest of you already have it. I guess I need to get over that! LOL

Based on the music that Kelly, Rick, and Alex (and a few others) have accumulated, I think that BMG and ASCAP would be knocking on their doors if they ever lost the original recordings.

OK - so then you need to provide a list of songs for us poor unfortunate souls so we can download. I (once again) will not be a WSSC.

I'm in and have already squireled (ha ha) away a few I really like, keeping them close to my chest & not mentioning them. Of course, y'all may hate them but I can't worry about that. Unfortunately, I've only got a few.

I'm gonna pass on being part of a tree this year but if you want/can section off some time,I will have my entire mp3 collection with me and you are more than welcome to take what you want.

oops, my bad Pink. Still not quite sure what he (Rick) is offering to us? :? I'm picturing us sitting on a couch in the lobby looking at his gargantuan list of tunes saying..."oh I want that one!".
Am I essentially right here?

Anyhoo...

I wanna burn my cds at least a week before we depart. So by Mon May 21, I'd like to know for sure how many to make. That gives us just under 3 wks to have a total number ready.

Anyone else yet?
Honestly I don't care if I get repeats, participate anyway! :)

I'll be at WSSC...I'll have my PC there...If I can rip some tunes...great. I have a 40G portable drive that I can TR anything anyone would like.

CD exchanges in person are kinda low tech. Put mp3's on a flash drive and swap them out.

Humour me AC, apparently you're not aware that I'm technically challenged! (and please do not refer to me as a luddite, I am not against technology itself, I just fear it somewhat?)

Transfer...drag and drop.

Here's the deal...I'd buy into anything new they have there...rip it up onto my PC and drag the mp3 file onto a flash drive for anyone. Surely you (rh) must have bought flash drives along the way. They are less than 20 bucks for 1G...which is much more usable than CD-r's.

Is the flash drive something like that pen thingy you stick into the front of the computer to store stuff then you can take it to another computer and put the stuff you stored onto that computer?? It's about 2 inches long right? :?

Well, I'm looking at one now (at least I think it's one) and it looks about 2 inches long by one inch wide. Is that a flash drive or a pen thing. Aren't they also called sticks? :?

Got it now. So what do I do as far as my music and sharing? Do I just plug it in and am I able to move songs from my itunes library onto it? Then give it to you and you plug it into your computer and you upload it?

You can't transfer music from Itunes unless you burn it and rip it back up.

I knew that, I really did, just seeing if you did!

Ok, so basically I just go into my music folders and click on different songs to put on the flash dirve? Or do I make a nice little folder and put a bunch of songs in there and then download it onto the flash drive?

Talk me through it, speak english, and be nice Arnold. :)

Sorry Steve here, not Arnold. Ehmm shades of Welcome Back Kotter... Anyway, you can do it either way Kelly. Folders are nicer if you want to stay organized (Which is how I picture you!) Or just drag and drop each file as you go. HAVE FUN! I knew that, I really did, just seeing if you did!

Ahhh...(light bulb moment here :) )Thank you. I guess my last question is...how will I know how much to put on it? Like if I get a 1g drive, then does it have a running total in my folder so I know where I'm at??

btw Steve, are you in any way, shape or form, implying that I'm obsessive compulsive??

ok, oopps, one more question...if AC wants to upload the songs off my flash drive into his (whatever gadget he's bringing) and Rick does too, can they both do that, or do I need a seperate flash drive thing for each person?

Nope, just hook up and unload to Ricks' drive and then do the same to AC's Harddrive or stick etc.. :P ok, oopps, one more question...if AC wants to upload the songs off my flash drive into his (whatever gadget he's bringing) and Rick does too, can they both do that, or do I need a seperate flash drive thing for each person?

Kel, can we just exchange CDs?

AC
05-03-2007, 01:45 PM
OK...I'm offering to bring a small (40G) drive and I'll transfer anything you'd like. If you bring a few blank CD-r's, I'll transfer onto that too.

A flash drive is just a portable memory device like a floppy disk used to be. They just come in larger memory capacities. 1G, 2G, 4 G etc. They are like the memory cards you use in your digital cameras, which BTW, and I dont want to freak you all out, you can also use to transfer music files. When you plug the drive in, you just drag and drop the file using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer).

Your Ipod can also transfer files, BTW, with some additional software ("Tune Transfer", $25 piece of software or there might be a freeware version).

It's really a pointless waste of time to burn 15 CD's to exchange in person. For mailing...fine.

You guys just stay in your comfort zone.

How about this....

I'll make audio for those who are not bringing a laptop or device to upload tunes, and I'll also put the same tunes on a flash drive those who do bring a device.
I'm assuming two things here....one is that when I upload from the flash drive to your device, AC (or whomever), then you can also download some songs of yours onto my flash drive, right?
The second assumption I'm making is that once I get home and put the new tunes I got from you (AC or whomever) onto my hard drive that I can then clear out the flash drive memory and re-use it again. Right?

How bout this... everyone who wants to share music in Miami on an AUDIO CD, then copy and paste your name to the list below. I'm going to do both (I'll bring audio cds and put the same music on a portable device to share with the other folks).

AUDIO CD's (just so we know how many to bring with us)

ok, by next Monday (the 20th), I think we should want to know just how many audio cds of our music to pack. So if you want to do the audio exchange (meaning you are not bringing your computer and a flash drive to upload the tunes) then be sure to add your name to the list.

Have to say I am getting in my 2 weeks to go excited mode now! In just 2 weeks from right now (6:45pm CST, 7:35pm EST) I will hopefully be dining with some very dear friends (that I sadly only see yearly :( ) and maybe meeting some new ones! :)

Is it sad to say that this is the highlight of the year for me?

Melt....Are you bringing a computer or something that I can dump my songs onto for you, or do you and I need to exchange cds? :?

I think those of us who are NOT bringing a computer are

ME
Pink
Monica
Melt (maybe)

So that would mean we each need to bring 3 copies of music on cds.
Do I have that right?
I wanna get this done real soon, so I'm not rushing next weekend. :o

Kel, I'm bringing my laptop, tunes on a flash drive & tech support (Mr. P.). I need to know how many audio disks I need to make. The only thing I worry about is meeting up with people to copy (and having my computer when I do)-- you know how hectic it gets. With audio CDs, we just have to pass them & throw them in our gym bags.

Well if your bringing a laptop does that mean I bring audio cds for you and you for me? I'm not bringing a computer, just the flash drive card with tunes on it, and another card that's blank to put tunes on. Could I not stick my "full" card into your laptop and dump my tunes on it, and then put my "empty" card into your laptop and receive your tunes?

Someone help us please! :?

You don't have to make an audio for me. I'll retrieve your tunes from your flash into my computer. You can do the same with your empty drive. I guess I only questions is, will the drive be large enough to hold all the stuff you want to copy for everyone?

kszspin
05-23-2007, 07:09 PM
My DH had (2) 1g cards already. So I can receive up to 1g on the empty one. The other one is only going to have the amount of songs I have put into this WSSC folder, which is at 300mb.

So for the number of audio cds to exchange, are we now down to just Monica and Melt?

As far as when to get together to do this stuff....why don't you, me and Rick and Yvonne exchange songs on Wed night. Then AC, Raff, Zoepup, Monica and Melt exchange with everyone on Saturday night, say an hour after the last session and before we go out to dinner?
We could finish up on Sunday afternoon for those not in a hurry or flying out Sun night.

Am I missing anyone?
