OMG!! The price one pays for socialize medicine, I suppose. In my hometown, I recently paid $2.76. It was 50 cents cheaper 6 weeks ago.

Mark your avatar is hypnotic........strangely I feel like taking a nap. :o
$2.91 today in CT.
We have a reasonably high gas tax here, but I'm all for it, b/c it means our roads are really nice for riding.

..............and politically incorrect. My 9 year daughter has never played dodge ball at school. Thankfully, her self-esteem is still intact.

Don't know whether this was a throwaway remark, Mark.....but you're right on the nail.
I post on a few healthcare related forums and folk quite frequently cite statistics that compare the relative low cost of care in various of the developed countiries and the relatively mediocre treatment outcomes here in the US. I get to sound like a cracked record when I point out that healthcare in the UK ( and elsewhere) isn't necessarily as "cheap" as it looks.
I was back in England for a week last fall and just for comparison eyeballed a few representative prices other than gasoline. Most everything translated to a significatnly higher cost than here in the US.....granted, taking into acount the unfavourable exchange rate (from our perspective) but also the fact that UK salaries are generally lower than their US counterparts.....still a very pricey part of the world what with VAT over 17% (right Rick, Brit?) and direct taxation a fair bit higher.
Not necessarily part of the discussion but just an FYI for when you're complsining about your medical insurance premiums or co-pay.

It's wonderful there, so you never know....but I think the real estate sticker shock would be a bit much. Plus, with all that good weather it ends up really crowded (I'm rationalizing what I'm doing in CT. It's April and they're calling for snow tomorrow. )

I work as a Health Planner Analyst for a large hospital settled in rural GA surrounded by poverty. We take care of our indigent brethren. What's interesting to me is the impact of socialize medicine on timely access to care. I read reports in Canada of long wait times for MRI's and Radiology/Oncology treatment (probably doesn't hold true for all Provinces). And, these aren't poor people! . And, in England, until recently, a new hospital had not been built since 1976 (from what I read). What does that have to with price of petro? A lot
