How can you do that with the battery thing on it?

So some really mild soap will be okay? I was worried that it would somehow mess with the sensors.

If you have the wear link strap - remove it and wash or rinse the strap part. You can take alcohol or a baby wipe to the wear link piece and it will be fine. It is waterproof.
