In lieu of all the Imus controversy, which is pertinent here on a local level, I teach within 5 miles of Rutgers, my son went there, my nieces go to Vivian Stringer's Summer Camp, and I listen to WFAN a lot.

Obviously, the idiotic remark and the subsequent firings were, IMO, justified, which I can't discuss in replies, but for me, the most interesting part occured yesterday...

Our Govenor Corzine was in a serious car accident on his way to the overhyped apology meeting with Imus and the girls basketball team at Rutgers, which was going to be on Oprah, who managed to get into this act also. So why did the Govenor need to be there anyway? And not wearing a seat belt? And how does Oprah manage to get in on this, but the Gov gets blindsided? And, most importantly, does he get points on his license and does his car insurance go up like the rest of us poor saps in NJ?

Karma..on your way to a place to don't need to be and end up in the hospital. The meeting goes on because Oprah has a schedule to keep. Oh yeah...Imus...

AC - I had that same thought about the govenor. I thought it was so unfortuntate that this whole fiasco ended with this. Not sure I agree wtih the punishment - free speech and all. Granted not my sentiments but there are worse being said. How come Halle Barry can be in a movie called "Nappy Hair" there is a group called Nappy Roots andsome of their song titles are far worse than what Imus said. And lets not forget when Rev. Jesse Jackson called NY Hymietown. Where does he everget off putting himself in the middle of anything racially charged. Where is Al Sharpton now that those poor boys from Duke have been acquitted of all charges. Does he apologize to them and the things he said. These men are vultures. OK enough said - not lookingfor an argument - just needed to say it one.

He has always been the guy that shocks even longer than Howard Stern. He just got worse with age and his failing audience ratings made it a last ditch effort. May be he will go to satilite radio now too? He was high on the suck meter for this kid

Never listened to him - not my style - but you have to expect some crap from him. It's like asking Howard Stern to not curse or have sexual remarks. Get real!

A couple of replies...regarding Howard Stern...Howard is obviously crude and also very popular and has been severely fined over the years by the FCC, pays his fine and goes about his show...since moving to satellite, he's no longer an issue.

Jessie Jackson and Hymietown...when you're Jewish, it almost becomes inevitable that this, or Mel Gibson comes along, says something stupid and begs for forgiveness, which we always say, "Sure, we forgive you" but we never go to a Mel Gibson movie again and if Mel was on fire and I was walking by, I would not pee on him to put out the fire...but sure, I forgive him...and I forgive Jesse Jackson too, I just don't pay him much mind.

Rev. Al, in this area, you just say Tawana Brawley and you get enough flack for him.

Imus, was an interesting thing because he flitted in and out from serious guests to idiotic skits and commentary. So when he blurted out that remark, he really became a lightning rod. You could listen to him interview John McCain or Joe Lieberman or Howard fineman and then 1 minute later, a stupid remark. It's astounding that no clue on his part that he was being stupid until the shit hit the fan.

But, why no FCC fines...Howard was assesed millions over they years for saying penis and vagina and fart jokes. Not a nickel for racist jokes?

Almost forgot about Ms. Brawley.

You are correct with the Mel Gibson though - not on my list of actors to go and spend my money on.

Howard and Imus - lots of inconsistencies here - Fines/No fines - obviously Stern had a much greater financial draw for the networks so they didn't fire him. I am sure CBS/MSNBC has some ulterior motive money-wise from firing Imus.

Of course it's about money. Big-money advertisers were pulling their ads (PG & Staples for starters). That's the only reason he was fired.

Howard never lost advertisers...only at the beginning of his career...Howard was the largest revenue producer in radio (Imus and Limbaugh not far behind, but behind) and his audience and advertisers were always loyal...he paid the fines.

Howard was never involved with anything political or racial so advertisers just walked based on bad doody jokes and interviewing porn stars...which incurred fines. Making racial and sexist slurs obviously gets you fired, but no fines.

Corzine was to be the mediator between RUGBB and Imus. Why would he get points? His Trooper driver was driving the SUV. He was not wear a seatbelt but no points are assigned for that. His insurance will be paid by you and me, the taxpayers. Hey this event happend about a mile from where I work. A buddy who I work with was an EMT on the scene. It wasn't pretty scene at all I was told this am. The trooper was even more a lucky man considering what happend to the SUV.

So why did the Govenor need to be there anyway? And not wearing a seat belt? And, most importantly, does he get points on his license and does his car insurance go up like the rest of us poor saps in NJ?...

They needed a mediator?...was there some negotiation involved other than "I'm sorry"...like "How sorry should I be?" Corzine was going to get in on the photo op...I truly believe the accident was The Man letting him know that he was not needed there and there are way more important things to do in this state. But that's just my thinking...I could be wrong.

Taking pictures of poop......now that brings back some memories!
When I was about your son's age, I went on my first Girl Scout camp out for the weekend, and packed a camera of course. We camped at a state park that had port-a-potties (I had never seen the inside of one!). I was sooo fascinated by them so I used half a roll of film taking shots of the outside, the inside, down the hole, etc. Really wanted to bring home the experience to my parents. :P
They thought I was nuts. :o

Speaking of poop....I was watching Larry the Cable Guy on tv last night, and he had a line about his sister being in labor for something like 38 hours! He said "you know, I give up on a poop after 20 minutes".

Spaking of nuts - I think my first camera I took 2 rolls of film of (ok I'm dating myself now) the TV turning off and that dot that you would get in the center of the screen. I was very facinated with it. My mom saved all those pictures for me. I guess I might have gotten a better reaction if it was of a portapotty.

Have we ever experienced a more inappropriate shift from the original topic????

But here's my contribution...

We gave my son a little Micky Mouse camera and headed for the zoo. We got his pictures developed and all he had was picture after picture of animal butts. And the last pic on the roll? Dad's butt.

I'm sure I can tie together a large bowel movement, the Imus situation, Mickey Mouse, and the Govenor riding without a seatbelt.

Kind of like that fill in the story thread...but please don't start that...I usually end up regretting that.

This reminds me of an incident with our son who is now twenty.
He must of been six or seven and we are at my parents for Sunday dinner. We get a bone chilling scream from the buckhouse. As we rush in there is a look of dispair on his face and he is more than a little confused. As we investigate the matter we come to find out that he pinched one off a little too soon and a good portion of the turd was trapped because he tightened up. When I tell you we were in hysterics at the expense of the little guy you can only try to imagine. Fortunately after just a minute or so he relaxed enough to finish the job. In one piece it could have been a ribbon winner. I still get a pretty good chuckle thinking about it.

The only thing more idiotic than his comment was the outrage over it. I doubt few of the Rutgers Women's basketball team ever heard of him. Instead of acting victimized by his comment, their best reponse would have been f--- you. Who is this old white-man Imus?
