So I went to teach a class yesterday and while I'm dropping off the babes at the childcare the gal behind the counter starts to inform me that one of the children has been there over the time limit of 2 hours and the mother has left the building and cannot be contacted!
The baby wasn't even a year old yet and had no bottle, no diapers, nothing. Anyway the manager called the emergency contact (the Dad) and he had to leave work to go pick up his son at the gym. Well the Dad got there and the poor little guy started crying. It was crazy. Luckily the Dad was available because the next call would have been to CPS. :(
I never thought anything like this would happen, it was strange.
have you seen this mom before? is she a regular? did they ever find her? at first you want to think god who would do that, but then it's not fair to judge that situation until you know the whole scene. please keep us informed, something in my gut says there's more to the story.... :? jmd :D

I believe she thought it was a drop-in babysitter? I don't know for sure. I think this was the first visit, she probably did not have intentions to abandon him, but essentially that's what she did. I mean if you have a child you don't just drop them off anywhere. You find out what places are licensed, qualified, ect.... Just because a gym offers a service of watching your children does not mean they are a licensed daycare. Most mom's know that.
The child is fine, he was taken by his father.
But who drops a kid off without provisions?

I do nursery duty at our church and kids get dropped off without the necessaties all the time. Unfortunately I'm the only one that will say something about it to the parents when they pick they're poopy/wet/hungry child up from us. So I'm known as the 'Nursery Nazi'. I don't care though, the poor kids can't take care of themselves and how would the parents like to sit in their own feces for an hour or more? It got so bad with one poor baby that I actually brought in a bag of diapers and a sippy specifically for her. Argh. You should really need a license and proper training to be a parent. Don't get me started.... :x

That's awful! I will admit that I *almost* walked out without my children a couple of weeks ago. I was teaching, in the morning, and they were only with me because they had the day off from school. So, it was completely out of my normal routine. Luckily, I did that mental checklist before I walked out the door.
Being raised in the wilderness by wolves has always been an advantage for me.

This brings to mind a reoccuring nightmare that I have over a bonehead move I made about 14 years ago. My wife was working so I take our son to swim lessons. There is a store across the street, I go do a little shoppin and get back late, maybe 10 minutes. My guy was too young to search for his towel that was on one side of the pool and when I get there he is sitting on the other side shivering. He's 20 now and I think he has forgiven me but I could still cry thinking of his face that night and how he burst into tears when he saw me. By the way I am still not a big fan of the instructor who did not get involved.
It was my resposibility and I blew it but fortunately we kept it from the mommy or there is a good chance I would still be hearing about it.

See now, parents like you, me, and I'm sure most of us here, have an incident like this and it haunts us for YEARS! We remember it and it still makes our stomach sink and our heart hurt. And then there are the parents who do this and worse on a consistent basis and have no conscience to needle them.

Accidently locked my baby (about 16 mos old at the time) in the backseat of the car.
Thankfully it was in Jan in southern New Mexico, so he wasn't sweltering by the time the FD showed up to jimmy the door 20 min later. Don't even wanna think about it if it was in July! :(
Is this true confessions?
When my son was about a year old, we were leaving a friend's house. I had him strapped into the car seat and was right next to the car, saying goodbye to my friend. He was screaming -- uncontrollable screaming (you know, arched back kind of screaming). I thought he was just throwing a fit because he didn't want to leave and was over-tired, so I continued to chat. Well, I get into the car and there were a bunch of wasps in there buzzing all over. OMG, Worst Mom Award goes to Ms. Pink! I was mortified. I ran him into my friend's house and checked him from stem to stern, looking for stings. Couldn't find any but, to this day, he freaks if he see a stinging insect.

I don't know Pink if you look at that avatar long enough is it a flock or a swarm? Perhaps he is still haunted
