View Full Version : Cleaning up the naughty words in MM

I have the bare basics version of MM, so maybe it's not possible, but if I want to clean out a bad word, how would I do it? (I teach at a YMCA, and they are cracking down on us again with our music choices). The new Tori Amos single (Big Wheel) would be a fabulous flat/run song, but there's the whole "MILF" issue...I'm debating if I can take it out the 4 or so times she says it, or just crop the song at that point, but the rhythm is really good, especially at that point. I haven't seen a "clean" version anywhere. Just not sure how to do these vocal edits in MM. Thoughts?

Sorry, just realized this should be in the MM/ITunes forum. Mods, feel free to move this....

There has to be a clean version as I have heard it on the radio a few times .. not that I really listen to each and every word  Music is so much more background when I am doing other things... Megs? Can you explain how to do this? I've never had to do it yet and I also need to know how it's done...

Hi amybatt!
Megale helped us out by providing the following guidelines (there are apparantly 3 ways to do this):
1) "cut" the section of song out (select & highlight it, then cut) OR
2) add 4 volume markers around the offensive word/words (2 to each side) and drop volume by dragging down the blue line to lower than audible levels, OR
3) drag and drop a voice over -over the top of offensive word(s) section in conjunction with item 2 above

Cool, thank you so much! I'll try each and see which works out the best...!

I think #2 is probably the best way. I did #1 and the song just so happened to still flow when I deleted the small segment where the F-bomb was dropped. I lucked out there. I don't know if that would always be the case. Good luck and let us know how it works for you! MM is so much fun!

There is another option that allows you to backmask a segment using the Reverse option (it is available in the latest version of MM Express 6.1.3).
Once you've dropped the song into your timeline, find the location of the word you wish to reverse, highlight the segment, right mouse click and select the "Reverse" option. It then plays that section backwards (aka backmasking).

I did not know this! I have to get a upgrade this will be the coolest kcufing thing since buttered bread. :P
Meg
I have a rule...If a song has that many kcuf's in it that I have to sit and edit them out, I'll skip it. If there's 1 or 2, I'll talk over them.
Joke'em if they can't take a f-ck.
