Ok I have tried to ride to the falls for the last 3 weekends and I thought that I would finally get to do it on Saturday. On Friday one of my regulars said he wanted to ride there and if I would like to go. I am like OK! So on Saturday I start out from my house early to meet up with him by 8 o’clock at his place which is 15 miles away and on the way to the falls. We get there and He is not having a great day and I am doing most the pulling. We get out past Corbet (small town where most the bicycle harassment happens such as tacking the road and aggressive drivers) and a 7% grade for 2 miles starts. I shift down and my derailleur goes into my blades and knocks one out and messes up the rest and tacos my rim  I have to deflate my tire and pull the spoke back through the eyelet to get it out so I could limp it back to the town of Troutdale and wait for my sag. on the way back the guy from my class sees a friend and goes on with him to finish his ride. (I feel worse cause all these people are out today and everyone that rides by is like sinking me deeper into a bad mood.) I finally get to the LBS and I am like complaining as they take off my cog and that is when the tech goes "This spacer is incorrect!" "Did we put this on?" to which I said yah! so he fixed the wheel and I was out. But I am still 0 and 3 for the falls- I will return I will! :x

I hate it when someone goes by you on a bike and just gawks. No are you needin anything? or Do you want a hand. I was on the road with out a spoke wrench and that is why I had to pull the broken spoke through the rim. Two groups went by without anything but a pathetic look. thank god I run blades with Mavic hubs 8) . I will go out again to night but not to the falls this time its to check thqt guys repair work. STP in two months got to pick up some miles.

Disagree. Meg needs to learn how to do his own wrenching.
There's a reason the LBS wrenches have vacant stares and slack jaws...and it's not because they've mastered Zen and the Art of Bicycle Maintenance.

I'm no wrench either - as frequently as a good LBS does tweaking, I think they're great. As infrequently as I do bike tweaking, I'm dangerous. Before a major ride I'll always do a ride past my LBS to let them give the bike a once over, and I also try to have a good wrench man on my crew in case something ever goes wrong.
I popped a spoke years ago on the 4th of July weekend about 50 miles from home. Completely backed off the rear brakes and winced as the tire would rub the frame, but luckily made it to a bike rental shop - they let me borrow a rear wheel to get me home, then I drove back to return the tire. That was extremely fortunate on my part.

They built the bike, there is a spacer that is used between the thin 10 speed cogs and Mavic 9 speed hubs. This was left off and a different one that is used with the 8 speed shimano and 9 speed hub was put on. when I shifted to the tallest gear it went too far and took out my drive side spokes. I can and do but when warrenty prevails I am gonna make good on it. I can work on bikes but who would of thunk to look behind a cog for the correct mm of spacer?
