I'm sure I could find the details, but I don't really feel up to reading it all. But on my way to teach this morning, NPR had a segment on the latest Floyd fiasco. Very sordid indeed. Greg LeMond testified that he was sexually abused as a child and someone called to threaten to release the info if he wasn't care what he said. The call was traced to Floyd's manager (who was fired on the spot). So other damaging stuff too. This just gets sadder and sadder.

This is the last straw.

I can't even look at FLs face anymore. Even if he didn't dope, it is now on record that he used threats (online) to advance his cause and the people he chose to "handle" him are only a reflection of who this guy is. It makes me sick.

I so wanted to believe him. This just doesn't even pass the straight face test.

Ugh!!!!

Yes, I heard this on The Today Show this morning. What a mess.

Not only is Landis a lying cheat, but he's a scumbag, too. He should get a lifetime ban.

If this place is so great, why can't we say "Pedal-On"?

Floyd, is this what happens when you get to the top? Greed? Power?
You worked your whole life for this and look what happens!?! Does this happen to alot of great athletes when they "make it"? I don't get it, but I'm not at the top either. I guess it really gets in their head and their moral compass goes bonkers. Sad.

What is so surprising? Cheaters resorting to extortion and blackmail to cover up their victories in a tainted sport.

It's time to just put professional cycling in a place where it is just seen for the photography and the riders and results no longer have any relevance.

Let's ride the TdF. This is where Basso injects, this is where Landis injected the hormones to make that epic charge in 2006, This is where ...oh you get the idea. As an avid sports fan my whole life, I just reject any notion that this is something I need to invest any time watching or caring about. Americans, Euros, Latinos...all internationally dirty.

Who said we can't?
Once upon a time, you couldn't. Glad to see the management has lightened up.

I guess this just proves you don't have to be smart to ride a bike well! What the frick were they thinking, making a call from a traceable phone? If you're going to pull a scumbag move like that, at least do it well and cover your bases.

Personally, I've not been a big fan of Lemond in the past when he's been so critical of LA (always seemed like a case of sour grapes to me, since Lance got so much attention as cycling became a bit more mainstream than when Lemond was on top), but in this case, I feel really sorry for him. How awful to have to share such a personal matter under these circumstances.

I also feel terrible for Floyd's parents. We're only about 45 minutes from his hometown, and the media seemed to be so overwhelming when this was originally going down.

The whole thing is a huge disappointment.

The more I read about this whole thing, I feel like I need to wash my hands after using my mouse.

In truth, there is some sort of conspiracy to get people to break the code of silence about LA, and an additional force of people that will do anything to protect him.

I wish he would just own up to it...it's pretty obvious that at this point you can't win 7 TdF's without drugs, so the life he leads afterwards will count for more than the tainted victories he's won.

What a mess.

....or to be accurate, what about the new moniker: Pedal-On. The Independant Voice Of The Indoor Cycling Community.

This all reminds me of 1984 - and newspeak.

Here is the official definition from the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
new•speak ('nü-"spEk, 'nyü-), noun, Usage: often capitalized. : propagandistic language marked by euphemism, circumlocution, and the inversion of customary meanings. Etymology: Newspeak, a language "designed to diminish the range of thought," in the novel 1984 (1949) by George Orwell. Date: 1950
