View Full Version : Mixmeister, is it really worth it?

How would you rate mixmeister?
Is it worth it? Are there any drawbacks? ect...
thanks in advance.
I have NO idea how I'd be able to plan my classes with seamless mixes without it. I can't compare it to other mixing programs because it's the only one I've ever used. But I can't imagine needing much more than it provides.
Drawbacks? Can't think of any. It would be nice to be able to print a playlist, but it's not a big deal.
If you are a spin member, check and see if they are still offering a discount.
I remember doing CD's without it...and I haven't done one without it since I got it. It makes me more efficient as a presenter.
The basic version is fine.

yes, I feel like it will add to my "presentation", make for a better flow ect...
Pink I believe I'm a spin member, I get the emails, but I don't know if that's what you're talking about. I believe there was discount with the password spinfriend or something like that, but that was a while ago so I'll have to verify if that's still the case. Thanks.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my mixmeister and for under $50 you could have your music sound a 100% better. Get it Moony! (I sound like an infomercial)

AC and the rest are dead on. Really the only draw back is it will not let you mix protected files and changing them out to MP3 or WMA is the only thing that takes time. After they are in your vault of music everything else is crystal clear. It even allows you now to put you mix on your portable device by clicking a button. Buy it! don't get left behind in the music end of coaching (not a info mecial either). 8)

What other fun things can it do? other than blending songs together?

I love to cut and paste songs, take lyrics you don't like out, add sound affects....what else?
OK you sold me, now does anyone have a special promotion code they would care to share?
Moon, we got it 3 years ago but DH sorta remembers "SPINMEMBER." Me? I remember nothing. If it doesn't work, we could do a little investigating.

Works! Thanks a million.
Now I need more help!
I've been having trouble adding the songs into the library. When I add my itune folder it only includes my older songs and not the more recent ones. Anyone know how to get the recent tracks into mixmiester? :?

Moon you are on the recent CD exchange list right? Then when you get mine you'll see what you can do with a pebble sized brain like mine and MM. As far as the tunes that you have that have certificates you'll have to burn them to CD and then rip them again in a MP3 or WMA file to get them to go into MM

So how do I rip the tracks back in my computer in a mp3 format? This is so confusing... I think I'm having a technology meltdown!!

If you don't have a techy DH, you've got to find a boyfriend. '' Or I'm sure some of our saavy IC friends will be able to help. Mr. Pink has me set up and it all works like magic, but it's a mystery to me. I use Windows Media Player to store all my music files.

Moonie:
This should help you. Open iTunes. Go to iTunes, Preferences, Advanced, Importing.
Where it says, "On CD Insert" select "Ask to Import" (it's a drop down menu).
Then where it says, "Import Using" select MP3 Encoder (again, a drop down).
For "Setting," select Higher Quality (192 kbps).
Then click the OK button. You are all set to rip CDs back to your computer in MP3 format.

So now I need to rip my cd's back into my library? Won't that create duplicate copies?

Yes. I usually just then delete the Protected AAC Files and keep the MP3 files.

You are most welcome. It's a pleasure to help out when I can.
When you look at your general library of songs, there should be columns listed for each song. For instance, Title, Length, Artist, Album, Genre (if you have that one checked off in your Preferences) playcount, KIND. The one that says "KIND" will list if the song is an MPEG Audio File, an AAC Audio File, or a Protected AAC Audio File. After you've ripped the songs back into your iTunes folder then, you'll see the song(s) listed 2X, once as an MPEG Audio File and once as a Protected AAC Audio File. I usually delete that one (it will aski you if you're sure) and if you're sure, then delete the Protected AAC File (since you have it as an MPEG now too).
Does that help?
Moonsavvy
05-20-2007, 05:33 PM
OK question.
My itunes doesn't have a column where it say's "kind". But I did transfer my most recently added tracks into a folder, when you open the folder they say they are MPEG'S, but I still can't add them into mixmeister. :?

Moon you can't just drag and drop the songs from iTunes into MM (after selecting "create new playlist" in MM?)
Moonsavvy
05-20-2007, 09:09 PM
Well I can drag the one's in mp3 format, but none of the rest. So I guess I'm really having a problem with ripping the cd's back into my system in the mp3 format.

Pinkster, Go to File/ Save playlist as On the save dialog slect TextFile in the drop down menu and save to your HD. Open the file up using Excel and there you have your playist with BPM and everything else included.

I have close to 600 songs on MM. How do you prevent unintentional repeat useage of a song? If I delete the song from the MM library, will it delete the song from the MM playlist, too? Of course, it's already downloaded to my portable device.

Ok Funny you asked this......
I was just saying to myself, "I think I'm repeating the tracks." So for memorial day weekend, I cataloged each and every workout (over 40) to just see how many times I've used the songs. It took hours but now it's done and I can see how many times I've overplayed my songs. Do you know I've used X-Amount of words by Blue October at least 5 different times and didn't even realize it? Do it brother, it's worth it. But, I didn't have over 600 songs on MM either. Have fun. 8)

Once you delete it from your library it is gone. In options you are given a choice to have it deleted from your computer or just the library. Nope, as in yes? (It will remain in my MM playlist even if I delete from MM library)

Another obsessive-compulsive chiming in...
After finishing a playlist, I type it into an ongoing word document. Then, if I want, I can search on a title and see how many times it was used. When I first started, I refused to reuse a track, but I've let go of that. If a track works, I use it (unless I used it too recently.)

I hope I can start up this thread again by asking which package is most popular? I checked out the site and saw three or four packages available. Can anyone recommend one over the other or will the basic pack do? Thanks a million.

Kathleen,
I use MixMeister Pro 4. No complaints whatsoever. It gets the job done - and I found that it was user-friendly once I played around with it for a bit.

Kathleen,
I just upgraded to MM Pro (whatever the latest version is) from MM Express. IMO, if you are looking for basics, MM Express gets the job done. I used it for about 2 years before upgrading to Pro.
I believe the MM website gives you a comparison between the packages. Pro has more bells & wistles, but if you are new to mixing your own music, you may find MM Express a little less intimidating. Then if you decide in the future to upgrade to Pro, they do give you a price break.
Hope that helps.

I would buy the basic package unless you have experience with mixing music. But I must warn you it is addicting and once you have express you really do want to upgrade. Good Luck. :)

Kathleen.. I think he meant NOT THE OLD VERSION which didnt allow you to burn them right to your MP3 player.
I have MM Pro6 and I figured out if I export as wav files into a new folder, in my music folder and make sure SplitTracks is highlighted I can then convert the WAV files to MP3 using mediaplayer and then delete the WAV and iTunes just picks them up with no problem. Now I wish I could burn right to the iPod but I am not buying a new copy of Fussion the newest MM product. Oh and for your non technogeeks.. forget about it
