This is really a tradgidy. Tim was a advocate outdoor rider and could be seen in IDC cycling classes on a constant basis. He will be missed.

So sad. From reading the article, it appears the driver had a suspended license? That's SO frustrating. Send her to jail like Paris!

"The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Jennifer Knight of Hayden Idaho, was cited for Driving While Suspended, Careless Driving, and Passing in a No Passing Zone. "

What about man-slaughter? I'd think a life warrants more than driving voilations.

Did you know this man personally, Meg?

I agree with manslaughter. Not jail like Paris - her jail sentence is a joke. Take away this person's license for life and make them commute by bicycle for the rest of their life. No taxis, no rides from friends. Everywhere they need to travel, rain or snow - groceries, to work, wherever - make them ride on a bike.... a bike with a sign on the back that says "I killed a cyclist"

I don't know about where you guys live but they'll give a driver's license to a chimpanzee where I live. I'm very sad to hear this. I was hit by a drunk driver when I was six. My right leg was broken in half, put in a cast, rebroken and put in a cast again and I suffered a concussion as well. I was riding my bike home from my first day in the first grade. Almost the entire first grade is a blur but it could have been a whole lot worse.

This kind of thing both saddens me, and makes my stomach turn ~ not only for the loss of one of our own, but at how lightly it appears the woman who killed him will be treated.

I'm so sorry to hear that there will be another empty bike, Meg. There are far too many ...

How ironic it is that I found this particular article on the same website.

I had met him on occasion in our group rides of Portland Velo. The thing that gets me is this girl should not have been driving. And 5 secs of her time was more important than someone’s life. Man slaughter should be a charge she should not have got to go home that night or the next. The only thing that makes it a little easier to take is the impact killed him instantly he never knew what hit him. :(
The midnight naked ride is part of Pedalpolusa here in Portland. Funny this stuff happens in such a bike savvy region. Thanks you all for your sediments. Oh Tim was a frequent indoor rider of PDX Spinner some of you may recall him from the old Spinning site.

On the front page of our club site you can see his eulogy. We are going to have a vigil ride in his honor and a indoor cycling event to get proceeds for his survivors.

Mary O'Donnell would love for you to read this. We had a celebration of life on Friday. Please read just for the sake of knowing.

Thanks Liz, I just want to spread the word that as cyclists we need to have rights and those that tread (literally) on them need to own up to their misgivings. Portland is a savvy community that cycles and almost has platinum status. If it starts here it will spread. I want you all to be able to come to our state and ride and feel like you have viable transportation other than a car and feel safe about doing it.

Meg: I am speechless and at a loss for any words except, I am so very sorry for the loss. Tim sounds like he was a very special human being. His wife obviously loved him deeply.

Hopefully they will never have to use it. But if another tragedy occurs, I hope they use it with gusto!

She so needs to be in jail. She has been a loose cannon and she finally went off. How could someone sleep at night knowing they killed some one that was not doing a thing to them? Its my worst night mare. I can hear people consoling her now like..."he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time or its not your fault they should not have been out on the road." Its pissing me off again and she can't even pay the bleeming tickets that are a joke in the first place. Sorry venting here.

I still think there should be a way to ban them from motor vehicles for LIFE - even as a passenger - force them to ride a bicycle the rest of their lives, wearing a sign on their back - I killed a cyclist. Then have them register their address so it can be posted on a web site, so all cyclists know that there is a killer in their neighborhood, now on a bicycle.
If they get caught travelling in any vehicle other than their court appointed bicycle, THEN they get life. By the time they get strafed a few hundred times by pissed off cyclists driving by this very noticeable killer, they'll be BEGGING for life in prison.
Prison is too good for them.

Today I have faith on humanity. I have a totally wait and they'll see attitude. When people are forced to comply with a non oil mentality I believe a lot of the rage will go away with it. I see vids of people in China going through uncontrolled intersections and I mean a lot of them. They don't even come close to hitting each other on motorized scooter's and bicycles horse and animal drawn carts. I am not saying that that is our vision of the future but if they can get away with doing it with the basics why can't we?
