Meg...great to see you too!!!
OH my...so many choices huh?? Hmmmmm...what would you recommend that would be the best one to do for a wide variety of riders...level wise! Most of them ride with me twice a week, but with the summer season...I've picked up alot of new riders that aren't as seasoned?? I'm just not sure what would be the best way to approach it for everyone!?
Any help and advice is much appreciated!!
Thanks so much
JR

I like the Crit and the TT. If they are a crazy bunch then just a stable straight in the seat with a couple of standing portions that would last no longer than 15 seconds to air out the hip area :D intensity is already going to be hard because of being in the seat for so long- this would maximize your coaching skills. The Crit is easy if you like to get a design and revolve it over and over for laps. Intensities very with in a bracket of either HR numbers or zones. Cueing is the part that brings the realism into this and training before one goes hard is good so give them some time to prepair themselves for this fun. I have a design sheet at home that you can use or tear up. I'll post it here later.

Meg...thank you so much! I would love to see your design sheet. I think it would really help me get an idea of which way to go with this and plan accordingly! Yes...cueing is so important! I learned that so much at WSSC. It was amazing to me the skills some of the MI's had! I'm sure a lot is practice...but you can definitely tell when someone is truly gifted in making an indoor ride an "outdoor" adventure!! I love it and hope to be that good someday!
Thanks so much for all your time and help!:D

Megs,
I have some questions about the profile. There excellent questions, too!
On the first turn, it looks like it's one minute seated climb. You add resistance three times and you increase cadence with each turn. Is that right?
2nd Turn- 3 minute standing climb & 3 switchbacks. Can you explain switchbacks? Is the total time in turn 2 3 minutes or six?
3rd turn- I understand the Jog on a hill. Explain the switchback. Is the total time 1 minute or 2?
Thanks for your help. This is going to a lot of fun for my students!!!

Indeed excellent questions and feel free to add to what you see necessary to make this as realistic as possible for your group. But to answer your Q's...
First turn is a resistance added to create the need to go to the Jog on the hill~ the cadences I give are the suggested cadence perameters of a seated hill climb in Spinning and Schwinn guild lines.
Turn Three switch backs are created this time with high resistance and a surg in cadence (of course within the guidelines of both philospies) total time is 3 minutes last switch back gets you to the down hill section.
And 1 minute after third turn.

Excellent application of Cad software! Hate to see stuff like that wasted on work :D
One other question - is there padding in the middle in case I lose concentration and fall in at one of the narrow parts of the track?
I'll have to blow the dust off of my Cad program and give this a try - haven't used it in quite a while in my current position. Lot's of number crunching and statistics, but not much Cad anymore. :(
Speaking of calculations - try to calculate the temperature that the inside of my station wagon got to yesterday (hot sunny day, 95F outdoors) in the parking lot at work to cause both tires on Cal II to explode - they were pumped to 130psig at 75F in the morning. I was using my training wheels that came with Cal II with 700-23 Maxxis tires. Lesson learned - just like pets & children, DON'T put your bike in your car on a hot day without leaving the windows open!!!! :o

I am working with surfaces right now and I have some ideas on some courses to create. What software program you using Liz? Solidworks is what I am using. Also PINK are you listening? I am thinking of drawing your bike since you had blue prints out there.

The last upgrade that I got here when I was in engineering was AutoCad 14. Still have it, but the engineers have all been upgraded a billion times.

Hey Megs! Just wanted to let you know that I used a version of this race track idea this morning. I had to hand draw it on the mirror, so it wasn't as professional as yours, but we did four laps with a climb, a nice wide flat for speed intervals and passing, and a nice descent. The class LOVED it!!!
Man, I just started teaching morning classes this month and I can't believe the energy level these folks have! I couldn't get up every morning to do this class (need to get up at 4:15 to get there on time), but it sure is a fun change of pace and I actually look forward to doing them. I'm not normally turning pedals over at 6:00am unless there's a trophy or tee shirt involved!
