Thought this was a very interesting article in today's LA Times. Unfortunately you need to register with the Times to be able to get the whole article. The registration process is free and it's well worth the small amount of time to be able to read the whole story.

Very interesting but I can't see any benefit in antagonizing motorist that have to be faced all the other days of the month. And courtesy is curtesy, whether you are in a car or on a bike.

I lived in Sacramento in the 90s, I remember being in San Fransisco attending a conference for work on a day that just a happened to be a "Critical Mass" day, when things were just starting up. It was pretty wild to watch. Almost as funky as the Halloween parade...
California is very bicycle friendly. In Sacramento, all the major roads, except the freeways, have bike lanes. There are hefty fines for cars that obstruct or drive in bike lanes and for motorists found to be at fault in a bike/car accident. There is also a great system of bike paths atop the city's levees along the American and Sacramento Rivers.

We have critical mass here also I have been on the rides and for the most part it is a safe movement through the city BUT there are those that treat it like a War Protest and start causing trouble and sometime violence breaks out.

After my encounter this weekend, I'm 1000% for critical mass. Get some of the idiots out of their oversized SUV's and learn some friggin manners on sharing the road with cyclists as well as other motorists. Better yet, take away their high speed tanks and make THEM ride a bike, if they can find saddles big enough for their fat arses!

You know some would have myocardial infractions and we would then have stinky streets and have to use bigger tires to get through the mess causing a larger drain on our glycogen stores thus a bigger need to eat more pasta and they can only make so much . So all in all we have to deal with them the way it is. :D

Or maybe they could supersize some mountain bikes and make them monster bikes and just ride over the friggin cars during the critical mass rides!! :D

Well we still have our crazies. There are attorneys that specialize and only work on cases with vehicle/bicycle accidents. Apparently they stay busy enough.

Don't you dare change one letter! The cerebral acrobatics necessary to figure out what you are saying is just what my neuropsychologist prescribed. In fact, I probably should be sending you my co-pay!

Sorry, the English major and the Communication Master's in me is having a fit about now. I'll keep it to myself, however, and continue reading the vibrant, soul-inspired, humorous, and intensely keen knowledge that I have come to expect from my comrades.

Kathleen,
I work for a newspaper, spelling counts. It is amusing, however, to see all the typos in posts in the journalism forums. :D
