I just read Monica's post about her frustration with MixMeister. I have been thinking about getting it, but now am feeling a little unsure. Here is my biggest hesititation (besides Monica's "AHHHH" post): I currently use iTunes and really like it. It is user friendly, works for me, and all my music is organized there. But if I download MixMeister, will I have to convert all my files? I know I talked to Kelly about this briefly at WSSC, but I can't remember what she said(sorry, Kelly!). What is the biggest benefit, besides the obvious. I don't plan to spend hours mixing music(although I wish I had time to do that-seems like fun). The only thing I would like to be able to do is limit the time between songs and maybe mix a song here or there. By the way, I know I haven't been on the forum in a while, so I hope everyone is doing well! :)

Remember- I am a mixMeister virgin-have no knowledge about it whatsoever-so be gentle with your advice.;)

This depends on how your iTunes songs are saved. MixMeister uses mp3 files, if you've saved all your songs usings Apple's compression format (AAC), then you will have to convert all your songs to mp3s, which iTunes can do, but it's time consuming, depending on how many songs you have.

Spin Bob! How are you? Thanks for the advice-I'm checking it now.

Of course, they are in the AAC file. If I do convert them all, then can I burn them to a cd using the MP3 format in MixMeister? I told you I know nothing about the different file types. I'm here to learn!!

I'm doing great, it's good to see you pop in every now and then.

If your songs are in MP3 format then you will be able to import them into MixMeister and manipulate them, speed them up, slow them down, fade one song into another and a bunch of other stuff and then either burn them to a CD or export them to your iPod.

So, in order to convert them to MP3 format, can I do it as a group?

Yes, you can. First go to the Preferences menu and to the Importing tab. Change import select from AAC to MP3 and click okay. Then do a "Select all" on your entire library and go under the advanced tab and select "convert selection to MP3" then walk away from your computer for a while. Get a cup of coffee, do a few loads of laundry, put the kids down for a nap... you get the idea. After a while you will have a duplicate set of you song files as MP3 files. You can decide if you want two sets of music or one. If you want just one set of music, delete the AAC files and just use mp3s. They work on your iPod and with MusicMeister. If you need any more help, drop me an email.

Thanks- that was my next question, as to how many files there will be of each song. I'll see how it goes!

Bob's got it all right. Krista, you won't need to spend hours mixing--believe me. It all goes pretty fast. I use the "cross fade" feature just about 99.9% of the time and MixMeister does this very nicely. Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions. This group is very good at guiding and answering questions!

OK what gives with Itunes? Seems like every other week I have to down load the latest version. Is this a way to wall up your use of the music? Sometimes it gives no definitions to why you need it or don't. Latest version is 7 point four point 3 something. If I used the old version would it still work in a week or month or......

It's probably more to do with new Ipod models and compatibility with video transfers. Probably also for the higher quality/higher priced music downloads. Nothing that diabolical....yet.

7.3 was an upgrade to work with the iPhone and 7.4 was for the new iPods, do you need the upgrade, not unless you bought an iPhone or one of the new iPods

What do you mean? In terms of buying an iPhone? You have to use their wireless service for the phone part, but you can also download and play music and videos on the phone, like an iPod

Naw there was something that if you down loaded it that it would totally screw up other devices or something like that. I did not read the paper but I saw the header about it.
