OK...not sure if this is the right spot for this.

Quick question...

I wear the Mic (airline 77) that wraps around the ear.

I keep getting break-outs on my ear (I mean big painful ones) that seem to get infected. Ouch and wow, gross...

Am I the only one this happens to? Should I put vaseline or polysporine on my ear b4 the ride? I'm looking for preventative. I basically have what I need to heal it.

Thanks,

Deb

Ouch, sounds nasty. I wouldn't use vaseline...I'd think you'd want the area to dry out. As far a preventive....is this a shared mic? Do you wipe it down before wearing it? Sorry I'm not being very helpful, but I feel your pain.

At one place it is shared (but everyone has their own windscreen) at the other I use mine. I just have EXTREMELY sensitive skin. I use alcohol swabs for other reasons so I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry a few with me and wipe the headsets down. Everyone will think I a germa-phobe but who cares. I am writing this as one is blaring on my ear!!!!

Leave it to me to be weird!!!!!

It sounds like you have sensitive skin along with a dirty mic, the combo don't work well together. The only thing I can think is to keep the mic from touching your skin, maybe start wearing a thick headband, bandana or hat. Try to keep something between the earpiece and your skin.

Whatever you do, don't put vaseline on it! :o

I thought that maybe the Vaseline would create protective barrier...oops

I can see why you would think that, but it protect's against water. Our faces don't produce water, they produce oil...lot's of it. With many pores just waiting to get clogged.

I'd also switch facial cleansers, use something for sensitive skin and then a topical acne treatment for your exisiting breakouts. And don't forget a moisturizer, something light.

I would wipe the mic down before you use it and then go to the bathroom right after class and wash that area with soap and water, towell off with a clean towell. Clinique also offers a solution for break outs that gets rid of those suckers fast. I do all of the above, because I am a germaphobe.

I am a total germaphobe and not ashamed to admit it. I carry lysol wipes and wipe down the instructor bike when I enter the studio. I agree with the others--wipe down the mic prior to using it.

I have the alcohol swabs packed and ready to go.

I DO have that stuff from Clinique...for minor breakouts it works, but sometimes I have to use prescription-strength stuff...I had an eruption on my face last week that was so bad my eye was swollen (I was a LITTLE freaked). My skin always gets weird when the season change.

My BF gave me these stridex-type pads with Erythromycin in them that seemed to hel, problem was I got them after the fact.

Thanks for the tips...I know....NO VASELINE!!!!

You don't want to use something that will be too drying on your skin, it might escalate the problem. (alcohol is not the best solution)

It doesn't sound like you have a problem other than this specific area. The number one, bestest, acne treatment for on the spot (meaning one or two blemishes) is a product call bye bye blemish. It's a sulfur treatment that you can get at a drugstore for less than $10. Yes it stinks, but it works better than anything I've ever discovered and you can use it with any cleansers.

I would also ice any areas that are swollen. As well as possibly make an appointment with an estetition (I know I didn't spell that right), they can use special tools to "pop" any of those pesky little guys.

I would go without the mic until you get this cleared up!!

When Pink was on vacation I subbed for her and forgot that there was a 6 am class that morning. When I picked up the headset it was soaking wet and the shocked look on my face must have been extreme because everyone gave me a collective ewwww http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_11_9.gif. It was beyond disgusting, so the next week I came prepared with wipes and a cloth to dry it off. Now I know why Pink has her own headset, LOL!

Deb - this probably won't go with the whole rocker chick look (unless you get the ones with the rhinestone skulls) but you you wear a headband with the back by your ears and have the mic on top of it.

Another possiblilty is if you do get off the bike during class, as you walk around, take the mic off and towel off your ears. (IMO - only do this where others won't really see you)

Corn starch powder behind the ears?

OK i'm just fishing....

Careful with cornstarch...it's a starch and will feed bacteria. Talc, maybe?

She really needs to stop wearing the mic until the breakouts stop. Then she can try again.

Uh.....I happen to have that headband and do wear it to class, but usually just to keep the hair (I have a ton of it) out of face. I will try wearing it behind my ears a little and put the mic on top (OK....OK...I have the headband but minus the rhinestones but plenty of skulls)!!!

Moon I had no choice but to wear it 2nite, the room is too big, I just can't yell that loud (even tho I DO have a big mouth!!!!!). I got it to calm down some from yesterday but I wiped the mic and my ear (alchohol swabs) down b4 and after class. This is the class that I use my own mic.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I get the impression I am the only one this happens to!!!!
