I saw it this weekend. It was a real good adaptation of the book by Jon Krakauer. Directed by Sean Penn. If you read the book you will really like the way the movie enhanced the written version rather than fail to do it justice which is typical of a book going to movie. Great adventure/coming of age/what is it that your really after story.

It's been years since I read the book but remember it well. I hate the way movies rip apart the good novels, but it sounds like they depicted it well. Thanks for the heads up.
Have you read "Into Thin Air?" Years ago I was fascinated with why people feel the urge to climb Everest, this one is the best on the why? and how?

ME too! He would be like, "What is up with you and these Everest stories?"
I think I like reading about people pushing their bodies to extremes to find inner peace. Have you read "Ultra Marathon Man" by Dean Karnazes? It's not as good as the Everest sagas but pretty worth while.

No I haven't, but I'll definetly be looking into it as my next read. Some other good adventure books I've read... In The Zone, by Peter Potterfield ,The Hungry Ocean by Linda Greenlaw ( about a women captain of a swordboat fishing vessel ), & The Perfect Storm ( you'd have to be dead to not have heard of this one).
Right now I'm trying to get through Oprahs new book club selection and I'm not digging it.
Getting back to Everest stories, I've dragged my husband to Ramsey Outdoor to hear Ed Veisturs speak on his 7 summit climbs, and had to see the IMAX movie of Everest in NYC as sone as it came out.

Funny, you guys are speaking my language! Can't say I've met too many people who share my fascination with people who take themselves into extremes, particularly Everest. But then again, guess I don't mention it to too many people IRL - they already think I'm a little nuts for all the miles I ride, and just don't understand why I love cold cold weather.
A winter-over in Antarctica - now that's an experience I'd be fascinated to be part of.
But that's on the path I didn't take. Oh well. I can read about it tho. One of my favorite sites:

PS Thanks for the movie review - I plan to see this one

Thanks for the heads-up on this one, Sandy! I had no idea the book had been made into a movie. It's been a few years since I read it...I'd love to see how it plays out on the big screen.
I, too, loved "Into Thin Air." A friend just recommended "Swimming to Antarctica" as a great read along the same adventure theme.
