Ok, I've had a Sports Instruments Fit 3 and two different Timex models. All three were ok while they lasted but..the Fit 3 is on its last leg. So it's time to get a new one.
At my age, I need one with bigger digital numbers so I can see it better when riding in a dim lit room. I don't want to spend my kids college tuition for one so looking for one under $125.00 or so.. anyone want to make a reccommendation? Thanks in advance.

I swear by Polar, check out the FS1, FS2 or FS3. Nice large display a range of functions and all under $85.

I agree with SpinBob -- Polar is a great choice. I have an F6. It was about $100. I'm very happy with it.

I shop items to death for features, and love my data. The FS6 seems to have the features without going much over 100 dollars. It offers a multidisplay, good backlighting and better file and zone displays.

This is the one I've got & love it...easy to use (I can do it), just enough info, without over-kill. If you go to the WSSC, you can get it for a deep discount ($80 maybe?). So you could spend about $1,000 to save $20, but fun is priceless, right? :D

Steve I ditto the advice from everyone on Polar. I have a Polar F-11 and it's great.

Steve,
If you're looking for a bigger read out on the dial look at the models I suggested. They all look like this, click on the photo to get a bigger image:

I'm a dissenter...I had two Polars that just died within 3 or 5 months. So I got a Sigma Sports HRM dirt cheap ($80 for $27 at the time) on Nashbar and it's 2 years now and not so much as a battery change (knock on wood!) Last week a couple people in my classes took advantage of a similar sale on Nashbar, so I know they're still out there for that price or lower.

I have the S625X and I can't say enough about it. I have had it for over two years, I use it in all ten classes every week. It stores my data for hours and hours and I can upload my data onto the computer to see my progress and there's a ton of other features. I met a girl at the WSSC named Angie, "Triang" for those of you who know her. She had the same watch and for even longer than I've had mine. That thing was so beat up! She said she never takes it off. She takes off the chest strap, but never the watch. It's called a running computer and it's great for triathletes. I didn't pick it for myself, it was a gift from my husband, but when it does need replacing, I will buy the same kind. Unfortunately, it's not in the price range you were talking about, but I just thought I would let you know how awesome it is anyway. You could check with Joy and find out how much of a deal she could give you. :)

Ditto on the F series. I have a F55(it's more than you want to spend) But you probably need all the bell and whistles either.

NJ - checking in here - I can get the F6 for $75 and then what it would cost to ship unless we can arrange a drop off. I have a black one in my car as I type this so I could get it out to you ASAP.

Thanks Joy! I used it this morning. Now I just need a few hours to comprehend all the things I need to learn to use it with justice. :o
