You are really getting started off on the right foot in getting Lizzy as your MI for orientation. I can't say enough good things about her. Lizzy is not only a good friend of mine, but is also one of the very best MIs that MDA has. You have every right to be excited and we all can't wait to hear how it went.

Shannon:
Lizzie was my MI in Madison a year and a half ago. SHE IS FANTASTIC!!!!
I also had the opportunity to catch up with her again in Miami at WSSC.
Lizzie will get you involved, ask you questions as a rider and then ask you the questions as an instructor. She wants you to "see" the difference.
She kept asking "So why would you do that to your students? Answer me my children!"
She used the "my children" phrase to emphasize a point, so if I am her "child" you will be to. So we will be practically related.
She said that we are "hers" forever, if we ever have a question feel free to email her. I have done so with great responses. She really wants to us to be great instructors.
Ask any and every question you have. Lizzie has a degree background in dance and spent time in Belgium, Luexmbourg, teaching as well. I asked a lot of questions about CI moves as my club at the time was going through some bad habits. Lizzie explained why they were CI moves and why they were bad for the body.
While all the MIs I have met during continuing ed courses, and at WSSC have been fantastic in many ways, the MI you have for your Orientation is special. Even though you may have been a Spin participant for a long time, the process to becoming an instructor is challenging and rewarding. And a great MI like Lizzie makes the process so much more of a memorable and fulfilling experience.

Shannon, I met Lizzy when she did a cert workshop at one of the clubs where I work. She is amazing. She let me sit in on the ride since there was an extra bike. I sat next to our very own Cannondaleguy (Felix) and soaked up the magic. I also did the CE workshop with her the next day; Creative Coaching. She really made us work and understand everything she was imparting to us. She has a special way about her, that's for sure. I know you're gonna love her!

Lizzie was my guru at orientation in Sept. You're going to love her; she's really down to earth and demystifies the process. Congrats!

Chaz was the MI for my orientation back in April 2000. I heard he left the MDA fold not too long after that.

Well she was everything you said and more. I just adored her, very professional, very thorough, and funny. She did reference us as "my children" "darlin's" & she kept telling us "she loved us." She treated us like it was the first time she taught orientation, which surprised me because you know she teaches this all the time.
Unfortunately she won't be at WSSC this year but was going to email me with her favorite picks. She said she might be at Boston. Guess what she referenced as ideal areas for spinning instructor support? Yep, Innercycling & PO. People were furiously writing the websites down, so maybe we'll see some new folks.
Now, take the test and I'm official! :) Thanks for letting me share.

Chaz was the reason I taught my first WSSC sessions with only 24 hours notice. He was really sick and MDA called me up. For me, getting thrown into the fire was the best way to be initiated. Unfortunately, I never met him, since I think he left shortly thereafter.
That WSSC (2002) was the year the entire east coast was shut down with thunderstorms that Thursday before WSSC. I ended up getting in at 4:45 a.m.. Dixie was my roommate and she got in an hour later. I had to present at 9:30, but I think she was on at 7:30. That was the WSSC when I discovered Cuban coffee. Ah, memories.....:D:o

Congratulations Shannon! i'm so happy that you had such a great "first" MDA experience. In all of my WSSC, and continuing education experiences (120 star points worth,) I've never been able to schedule a session with Lizzie :( but have heard such wonderful things about her.

Yes she is great, I was hoping to see her on sunday but MDA cancel the sunday workshop.
She is really open and have experience in both US and Europe. Her yoga and pilates experience is great too, you can fell it how she talk, how she move and how she is.
What is the other forum adress she give you ?
Do you learn any thing news ?
Don't forget if you have time to take one of my class.
Does the Greenbrier Y need instructor ? I try to find other facilities to see other faces and new challenge.
Thanks M, I'm so excited. I think I'm starting a trend, other people at my gym are interested. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

I have always recommended P-O and this year, IC sites at my orientations and trainings because I think they are such great resources for new instructors - I brag about the number of excellent motivators who regularly post here! But not all MIs think that... but I think their negative experience came from many years ago on the Spinning forum. For the most part, those days are gone; not much negative stuff or flaming going on here, and a lot of great learning going on. But I do wish there were more MIs who posted here! JFK and I get a little overwhelmed!!

They said only one person signed up, I guess that was you brother. I think she said Newport News is gonna ask her to come back in April maybe. I guess we should check the spinning website.
I do want to take your class, Tuesday right? I don't think we need anyone right now but I'll definitely let you know if we do. Come see me again, K?
The other website was pedal-on.com.
I didn't really learn anything "new" but she tweaked and refreshed some things that weren't quite right, kwim? :)

When I was talking to her I didn't want to name drop but I did tell her I had heard wonderful things about her, she said, "I hope I live up to what they said." She did encourage us to go to WSSC, that it would be something we would never forget. She was definitely down to earth, her husband and dogs even came along for the trip and at the end her husband stood at the back of the room for our last ride and she was smiling and beaming. It was a nice day. If your lurking Liz, your were awesome. ;)
