One of the most entertaining and informative internet forum threads ever...

(Note: It gets interesting somewhere during page 2 when Tim Noakes starts posting.)
Gee, thanks for posting that.
Coggan pretty much got it right.

Noakes seemed to hold his own, too. Too bad, according to Andy, he was out of the office and away from internet access when Noakes chimed in.
I'm sure they've had at it at conferences. I was disappointed Noakes wasn't at ACSM last year, I wanted to see him and someone from our lab come to blows (it's never happened, but apparently it's been close in the past).
Some of the slowtwitch folks got the key, which is that there is a big difference between the health issues of dehydration (which is to say that until it gets to an extreme, it's nowhere near as pernicious as hyponatremia) and the performance issues of maintaining hydration.
If I were an ER doc (as Noakes is by training), I'd rather have someone be severely dehydrated than hyponatremic. Easier to diagnose and less likely to lead to death. But that doesn't mean there aren't performance issues with even slight amounts of dehydration.
I must have missed Wide World of Sports when they had the Man vs. Antelope race?

I had a bagel for breakfast this morning.
