View Full Version : Advice on supplement use
I was talking to someone in the gym - he normally weight trains, but has now decided to focus on aerobic/CV training to get fitter and lose some weight. He took supplements for weight training (Creatine, Ephadrine), and has asked me what effect they might have on his aerobic training.
I know nothing about supplement use and their possible side-effects, so can any of you more clued-up people give me some sound advice on what effect - if any - these supplements might have on someone who is following a CV training programme, and what risks there might be.

Creatine won't do a darned thing for him aerobically. It is helpful only for weight training.
Ephedrine is similar to caffeine in its effects, however, the dosing is different, as are some of the side-effects and issues (personally, I'd stick with caffeine).

I was just about to ask where he was getting his ephedrine when I noticed you're posting from the UK. I imagine it's still available OTC there.
If you want so much as regular Sudafed here you have to make a nuisance of yourself and ask the pharmacist and then produce ID and sign for it.

Yes, I've noticed it's easier to get Vicodin or Percocet than Sudafed. Somewhere the law of unintended consequences must be kicking in.....

You can thank the methamphetamine fans for it.

I know. Sudafed is actually safer to make into meth than some of the raw ingredients (apparently using sudafed eliminates some of the more, er, explosive steps in coooking meth).
So now your local meth lab is more likely to blow up.

Pharmacist here, although you might call us Chemists. Ephedrine is a stimulant which suppresses appetite. Stay away from it. The drug speeds up the heart, raises blood pressure and once the dose wears off, you'll be ready to eat a horse. When it was on the market here, I would have slime balls come in looking for a bottle of a 1000 caps for their "cold" Yea right
