To AC and any other ipod experts out there...

I admit, I am finally coming into the 21st century and trying to teach from my ipod instead of a cd. I understand how to create a playlist on itunes and sync it, but I'm wondering if there is a way to create your playlist directly on the ipod without getting the computer involved. I checked the support website and couldn't find anything. Perhaps I'm just being a moron, but it seems it should be doable... any help?

Also, the club where I'm just starting has the stereo about 12 feet or so from the instructor bike (the room is set up for other fitness classes as well). Anyone know if they make a y-plug with a longer cord that could accommodate this?

Thanks for any ideas! I'm not tech-illiterate, just a procrastinator...;)

Creating a Playlist With the iPod

Step One Highlight and choose a song title or album title that is currently saved to your iPod.
Step Two Push and hold the center button until the title of the song or album begins to flash. Repeat this process until you have a list of songs that you want to hear.
Step Three Go to the “Music” menu, scroll down the list of available playlists, and then select “On-the-Go.” This starts the music playing.

As for the Y cable, yes they make them that long, check your local Radio Shack.

Thanks, SpinBob! Sounds simple enough...I'll give it a try!

You're welcome, it is pretty simple. You can create as many On-the-go playlists as you want, the second will be called On-the-go2...

Thanks Bob! I've been wondering how to do this for ages - and completely unable (er...unwilling) to spend the time it takes to look it up under HELP menu to find out!

I hate reading directions...

The directions for this are on the Ipod also.

I'd just add that if you want to start a second playlist, go to the bottom of your first one and do "Save Playlist" which will then make that "New Playlist 1" rather than just continue to add to the one that you've already started. Sometimes it'll start a new one on its own if I don't do this (I think it depends if I've had the iPod off for a while or not, I haven't figured that out yet), sometimes it won't. This way I can end one and start another on my terms.

Instead of a longer cable I suggest the Timex Ironman IController watch which is a remote control and will work up to 20 feet away to control your Ipod. Only draw back is that you will not see time that has ticked off but the fast foreword, fast back ward, volume , play and pause buttons are right on your wrist. You are not tethered to the cord any more.

One other thing... I don't believe you can do gapless play back from the Ipod itself I think that has to be programed in from the desk top application -Am I wrong?

I'm so glad you asked this question. Like others, I wondered if this was possible but I was too lazy to take the time to find out.

MI believe you are correct, sir, gapless playback is an iTunes setting.

While we're on the subject of playlists....one pet peeve of mine, and I can't believe they haven't figured out a way to do this, is if I'm building a playlist and then I fat-finger the wrong song and now I've got this playlist with a song I don't want in it. I can't delete that song. I can clear the entire playlist, but not the one I just added but didn't mean to. Bah.

Thanks for the tips/tutorial! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who wondered...;) I gave SpinBob's steps a try, and voila!

Meg...I'll have to look into the Icontroller...sounds pretty cool. Where did you get yours?

As long as we're asking general iPod/iTunes questions here, may I throw one in?

I don't really know the difference between gapless playback and crossfade playback in iTunes. What is the difference?

And if I use the crossfade option and if I don't want time between songs, do I set the crossfade playback time for 1 second or 12?

Thanks!

Kathy

Kathy,
Gapless playback is where one song starts as soon as the previous one ends. Crossfade is where the end of one song and the beginning of the next song overlap slightly.

Thanks, SpinBob, that helps.

Regarding crossfade playback, if I want a lot of blending between the end of one song and the start of the next, should I set it for 12 seconds? I have it currently set in the middle, at 6, and don't notice much in the way of fading.

I don't have MM so this is all new info to me.

Thanks!

Yes, 12 is more overlap and 1 is less overlap
