Pascal that is a serious training goal--I am impressed! WOW! Have you ever done this before, or will this be your first time? I can't wait to hear about this and keep us posted on what you're doing to train. How exciting!

Will you do it solo? Or with a team? Pretty awesome event, and I bet it's beautiful riding.

way to go!

What a beautiful part of the country in which to ride this . . . and some mighty impressive climbing numbers (21,000 ft over 200 miles . . . lots of punishing rollers in there, I'm sure).

Please keep us posted . . . I'm intrigued!

It would be the first time.
But I have experience in triathlon and mountain bike marathon.
But it will be really hard as I am in an area as flat as a table.
For the training I stay simple try not spend too many time on the bike, I prefer cross training and know that the most important is to train at higher intensity think I don't like ...

March :
goal = increase my strength be able to push more than 500 pounds at the and of the month on the press
training = focus on strenght , SAQ (plyometry), 1 short interval spinning training a week, my own spinning class as endurance (as I am an average of 20 minutes out of the bike to coach), running and cardio workout

April to May :
goal = turning the leg, finishing at the limit of overtraining.
training = 2 long ride on the fix gear, a maximum of recovery ride (from 3 to 4), 1 long interval and one race day spininng class, and my own class as endurance

May : 2 weeks without training (holliday in Europe)

June :
goal = test to see if I am ready, adapt my training if it need
training = miami convention; a lot of fartleg and cross training: recovery ride, hikking, trail running, cyclo-cross on the beach (run-ride); SAQ; 1 long ride on the fix gear; my own spinning class

July :
goal = be ready in time
training = too late to do anythink (my spinning class would always be out of the bike at this time), ride 2 time a week with cat 1 rider trying to keep the wheels no more than 90minutes and 2 recovery ride of 90minutes that is all .

That is what I plan to do but as always it would be adapt if it has to.

Looking at your training plan, it will be interesting to see how minimal specificity works out for you.

...and 200 miles with 21,000 feet of climbing in 10 hours? You might want to stick in a warmup century or two with more than 6000 to 8000 feet of climbing to find out what that feels like. My guess is you'll either readjust your target pace or start making plans to turn pro when you make your goal time.

Nice Ride! Double Century is one thing, but double century with that elevation gain looks awesome! I'd love to work towards that ride.

Whats your best 200 miles time?

I will see but last year I was just once every two weeks on my bike and finish a few century in really good time.
The worst one time was the first one mountain of misery 200km in 8h20 It was really hot ( over 105f) and I had just one bottle so I had a heat attack 3 miles before the finish line.
After I rode big mama in 6hours it was my goal big mama is a century with 15000 feets elevation the last one had just 5000 feets elevation but I finished it in 4h45 with 2 cat 2 riders.

If I find good riders in team the goal is possible, I have contact a fews team I will ride with. Cycling is a team work.

Yes and no but it is my experience.
I think that over a certain amount of time specificity is less important. Two weeks ago at a powertraining workshop we talk about that and the trainer was thinking the same.
The shorter the event is the more specific your training have to be to do a better time and the more the body morphology is important. You will never see a 150pounds guy do a better time than a big powerfull guy (with the same power ratio)

The longuer it is the more you need to vary your training.
With cross training your all body is working so when you are close to the limit, your body can use other muscles, other energy, ... it is helping.

But it is my experience some would train differently.

That's a lot of climbing. Seriously. To maintain a 20 mph avg over 10 hours is good; to do it with 21,000+ feet of climbing will absolutely be a challenge.

You would probably do well to venture out to the hills and climb 'em. A lot. Then repeat. Several times.

3 months before the big events still a lot of work to do.
Last weekend:
3 days ride in North Carolina, Flat flat and flat road fotunatly there was some wind.
Friday: 80 miles alone 4hours with rest stop windy but just enought
Saturday: 130 miles alone again, in 7hours really windy the pace was depending on the wind from 8miles/hours to 34miles/hours, it was really hard
Sunday: 50miles in the wheels in 3hours total recovery

Yesterday I rode the Tour de Cure what a great ride, not the road, but the organisation and goal of this type of road.
I finish the century in 5h40 with the rest stop, and we took all of them, with 30miles of pulling. I was lucky, I was in the only accident of the day. Three riders felt just in front of me, with 2 broken wheels but no physical damage.

Today, let say I am feeling this 2 weekends ride. I will teach out of the bike for the next week and will only do yoga and pilates as workout.

So I still have a lot of work to do to be abble to stay 10hours on the bike.

The next rides:
2 nice rides, in west virginia in you are close to this area on the same weekend:
-saturday 17 May: Tour de Floyd at Floyd 63miles
-sunday 18 may: spirit of survivor at Forest (Lynchburg) century
I have riden in those area real nice.

Pascal nice job! Your training is really taking shape--you are doing well, my friend! You are wise to teach off the bike this week after your ride. Listen to your body, as we say as instructors.

Keep us posted on your progress. You are doing really well---be proud of your accomplishments!
