I'm eager to participate in this months cd tree, and having a "new" problem with my computer. When I hit the burn cd in my itunes a message prompt says disc burner or software not found. I have burnt many a cd on my computer and in itunes in the past. This a new problem. WTF? Does anybody have a clue as to why this is occurring?

Does your computer play music when you put a CD in the the tray? If not my guess is that you CD drive may have a loose connection or may have became disconnected somehow. If you can play CDs, make sure iTunes knows where you library is.
Those are just guess of course...

No, what I mean is if you take a CD that you've already burned, does it play? It's really weird, if iTunes sees the CD, but then won't burn it.....hmmm. Let me check the Apple sight for you.

Check the iTunes preferences to see if your CD drive is listed, you might need to relink the burner to iTunes. Are you trying to burn an audio cd or an mp3 cd? Are you trying to burn songs you bought from the iTunes store?

Thanks for the resonse Bob. Itunes in preferences says it does not recognize burner. And I'm just trying to burn songs from Itunes for the cd tree. I wonder if the MMsample I downloaded from the internet to try is conflicting with something but that doesn't make sense. I'm going to buy different blank cd's and see if that makes a difference.

Two questions....can you burn a CD in Windows Media Player (or anything else you might have, like Roxio)? And did you take an iTunes upgrade recently? I have heard this problem with that, but not the latest release.

Im going to try media player burn.
That should isolate whether it's a hardware issue or some combination of hardware and iTunes issue!

Its not a success with media player either. Its says I have to connect a burner and I have an internal burner. All plugs are in so I'm guessing its a hardware issue. Thanks.

Do you have the original CDs for the CD drive? If so, I'd try reinstalling the driver.
If not, navigate to your Control Panel (under Settings), then System, then Device Manager. Pick your CD drive and right click on it. You can select Update Driver to see if Windows will fix it on its own (that often works).

So my computer is in the shop after my cd burning issues. The hard drive was on its last leg and both the cd reader and writer was not functioning either. Thanks for trying to help Bob and Amy.
