Teresa,

There should be a few of us there. I'll be there Saturday, just to hang out and met folks from the forum. JoyofSpinning, VeeSpin and MetalQueen are all going. Pink may even take the train in from Philly to hang out.

I feel stupid asking this, but where do you find out the details of ECA? I know it's right in my backyard, so I really want to go. I just need to know when, how, etc. I've done a couple google searches but the results are not at all what I would expect. :)

Here's my class sched. for the weekend:

Saturday:
Class 12-1; 1:30-3; 3:30 to 5
I would have no prob. coming in earlier than 12 or meeting at 5
Sunday:
Teaching 8-9
Class 12-1; 1:30-3; 3:30-5
Couldn't come in early but again, 5 is fine.

NOT presuming the whole world wants to work around MY schedule - just laying it out there.

I'll be there on Saturday as a journalist, so I'm limited to the Trade Show area. But I'll try to see how strict they are about that. They instituted a new policy for the press this year. They are charging all attendees to the workshops, including the press. They won't even let the press just stand on the side or in the back of the workshops.

Altho I had to get up at the crack of dawn today, I had a blast at ECA.

Took Feel The Rhythm, Feel the Rhyme...as an Instructor, I don't think there is much there that you can actually take back to class, HOWEVER as an Instructor/Rider it was awesome. It was really about riding what you feel or almost a "Rider's Choice" Ride which I know has been discussed on this Forum.

Then I took Josh's Reaction Ride...what can you say about Josh...he is a pure cyclist and I love riding with and watching PURE cyclists. The theory behind the Reaction Ride definitely can be brought back to the classroom setting and I will be stealing this one at some point. Basically he uses a whiste which you, as the rider, react to. It is an Interval Ride.

Then I took "Ride a Minute" with Dixie. She was very enigmatic and informative altho I'm not sure I took anything "new" out of it. Still, a good refresher. Then we did a short Strength Ride.

That's my update...

Of course, on the way home I get on the train that has to be delayed because there were hammers on it that needed to be escorted off by the police. Never a dull moment and I guess better on the way home than being late on the way there. Gotta see the bright side!!!

Hopefully, I'll meet some IC Forumites 2morrow. It's a little hectic and I can see how it might be hard to hook up.

SB...NOW I'm the Journalist!!!!!!

Love the on the scene reporting Deb. Missing out of ECA because of Boston, but love hearing what you took and what you took out of it. Question did you mean that Josh had a whistle? And he blew it and then you all did an interval?

Deb - I made it to Dawn's ride 1/2 hour late but I was in Josh's (awesome) and Dixie's (outstanding as usual). BTW I was the one that was picked out of the crowd and gave the strength ride. Hope you enjoyed it! :)

Love the on the scene reporting Deb. Missing out of ECA because of Boston, but love hearing what you took and what you took out of it. Question did you mean that Josh had a whistle? And he blew it and then you all did an interval?

The idea was to just "react" as opposed to what I would usually do which would be to count down to the Interval.

So he would blow the whistle, you picked it up and he would blow it again and you backed it down. The time between "blows" would vary and the length of sets varied, but the point was to pay attention and be ready. He cued you to close your eyes and just listen.

Later in the ride there was an extra "blow" so the first indicated picking it up and the second you picked it up even more and then he backed you down.

Some of the sets were done seated and some were done in 3.

My only concern with the ride was when a rider reacts spontaneously like that, isn't it a little hard on the knees? He felt it wasn't and was very approachable. He's the kinda guy who looks you right in the eye when you talk to him and you have his full attention and never makes you feel like your question is stupid.

I hope I answered YOUR question.

Firstly...

John...Congrats and you WILL be a "great" uncle!!!

Lori...Spinbob has the pix (ugh, and he took thempost-ride). I got a pocket digital camera for my birtthday and haen't had 5 minutes to figure it out. It's still in the box!!!!!

Filing this quick b4 I go out for a much deserved hi-protein dinner!!!

It was my great pleasure to meet Viv, Joy, Renee and Spinbob (with Casey in tow)...All beautiful people on the inside and out. Hopefully Theresa and JohnNYC will be in the mix 2morrow. Thanks for my "birthday" Venti, Spinbob.

Took 212 with Josh firstly. It was based on a book, (not sure of the name, have to ask Josh). It was about taking it to that extra degree, how water is HOT at 211 degress but boils at 212. Inclusive of (not joking) 212 Jumps.

Then I attending a lecture, Soup to Nuts about class construction. Dixie was supposed to teach it but wasn't there today so Dawn did it. I found it interesting and informative and everyone was jealous that I was enjoying my birthday Venti. I always hate lectures (on any subject) because there is always a handful of people who NEED to be heard when the class really needs to move along, as usual, those people were there.

Next was Performance Cycling and it was about applying it to an athlete. Not the ride for your fitness enthusiast. First Dawn did the lecture, again, interesting (nd wow, most people kept their mouths shut) and had a bit of a scientific angle to it which I enjoy. Then Josh taught the O2 ride....Holy crap...at the end of the day, that is tough ride. Basically riding alot of Threshold. This class w/b better offered earlier in the day with some fresher legs. I think alot of people were spent. Josh sensed that and while he STILL kicked our asses, as a true professional, he responded to where he felt his participants were at.

Again, a blast.

I look forward to going back tomoroow (after I teach an 8 am class, thank God it's Endurance).

Regards to all...

Here are the photos. I only got to just meet Deb and Renee between Josh and Dawn's rides and then they rushed off. Viv, Joy and I had a nice chat and Joy and I strolled through the trade show.

Deb, I hope the Venti was okay, I had more Splenda in my pocket if you needed it. I'll bring them to Miami when we'll have more time to talk.

Teresa, sorry I didn't get to meet you. The first photo is Deb and the second photo is Renee, Viv and Joy. Sorry the photos aren't great, my camera is better outside with natural light than it is with the flash.

I love those buffs. There's a really great site where they have like 8 different ones. It's www.sahalie.com (http://www.sahalie.com). I have like 6 of them...I've never been a big pony-tail person.

Like everyone else, I had a grand time at this ECA. I've just arrived home.....very interesting trying to get out of the car after 4 hours of driving with a serious case of kettlebell butt!

I didn't stay for the Sunday classes like I'd planned to and I think that was a wise move.

Enjoyed all my classes.....including the ones where either Renee or Joy and I sat the rides out and had a fine time critiquing all the poor form we saw.

Interestingly, in the 212 ride Josh was so insistent on effort with good form he told us ahead of time that he would be pointing to anyone who was, say, bouncing in the saddle just so they'd know that's what they shouldn't be doing. Let me say there were quite a few people in my line of vision who corrected their hand positions or added some resistance for the high cadences we were using. I believe that he only "pointed" a few times......and this was definitely not representative of the way some of those folk normally ride (the real psychospinners tend to stick in your mind from year to year) Just goes to show that it's not always ignorance that you're looking at.

Rang the changes with the kettlebell workshop (tee-hee)....that was great. Also did J C Santana's Spartan Training....gave me a few ideas for my own workouts.

I got a lot of hugs and kisses from my cronies from the LI gyms.....along with messages from class members who were pretty sure I was going to be there. Even my daughter commented on how much folk seemed to miss me.

Baby was very sleep deprived (had just done a double shift) so we both bailed early on the Friday went back to her apartment, slept showered and then went out for a slap up meal.

A very fun weekend.

Well, I guess the accurate moniker would be delayed onset muscle soreness due to the butt kicking workout you get with kettlebells.

finally home and now that I see the pix I was hoping I'd have looked better for my first picture introduction to the forum (I guess that's what I get for riding with Josh).

I had a blast and body is definetly going to need some rest. I have taken it well over my threshold and there are pains and swelling in areas that should should never be (LOL).

Yvonne ,your sister is amazing. She is grounded and smart. Ilearned so much during her sessions this weekend.

Rides were amazing. Kettlebells a new thrill. Conditioning and abs classes a huge bonus for me.

VIV - so truly happy to share some time with you. I miss you.
DEB - great to meet you and now hope to see you often.

Joy is WAY TOO RIGHT about pains and swellings in areas that were not meant to be that way. That part of my body would prefer NOT to see a bike for a while.

Missed ya today Viv....

Got to hang and ride with Joy again today and you/she are/is awesome!!!!

I have to say my head is spinning and I need a few days to really ingest this all.

My first class/ride today was "Chilled Out" with Josh. RECOVERY!!!!! and after teaching this morning at 8 am and running to the City it was just what the Doctor ordered. I KNOW you are supposed to integrate Recovery into your Spinning Program and it is not that I wouldn't be comfortable teaching it, BUT, I'm not sure that it would fly..of course, I didn't think Endurance would fly and now I teach it all the time, so....

My Second Class was The Landscape Journey with Dawn. I DID take something out of it but it was a little too "metaphorical" for me. I got the point, tho. I enjoyed the feel the Rhythm Ride more so.

Third class was Riding, Leading and Educating with Dixie. I was sorry I didn't have more exposure to her this weekend (she wasn't there yesterday). She is AWESOME. She knows her stuff and loves to present it. She has that "passion" for what she does and you can't fake that. Then we did an Interval-type ride (the Intervals were 8 minutes long at 80%).

While I am wiped out, I really played it smart this weekend by continually eating and drinking and never found myself lacking for energy (practice for WSSC).

Overall the experience was a learning and growth experience for me and I took the time out to actually enjoy some of it as a "student" without having to be the Instructor. I think that was important for me, to re-connect as it were.

This is your humble reporter and Queen signing out (not long b4 she goes to bed!!!!!)

Mary,
It was a good time, I have to say I've been very lucky with meeting forum folk in person. I really think the positive impressions we make here carry over in to real time. Viv and Joy are such dear, sweet people, as I'm sure Deb and Renee are as well, but they took off for their next session and my son and I were gone before they were done. I also bumped into Josh Taylor as well

Sorry I had to fly, SB....hopefully we'll get to know each other a little at WSSC.

finally home and now that I see the pix I was hoping I'd have looked better for my first picture introduction to the forum (I guess that's what I get for riding with Josh).Joy, you are truly beautiful, stop making a fuss.

She was the MI for my orientation and several Continuing Ed. workshops and we've stayed in touch all these years.

Sorry I had to fly, SB....hopefully we'll get to know each other a little at WSSC.Count on it.

I missed Dixie's last session ... had to bail because I just had enough.
Viv, it was great to see you again, had a blast hanging with you and please let me know how the audition goes but there is no doubt in my mind that you will be wowing this person.
Joy, YOU are a joy, you are a really nice peron and I am sorry I didn't get to hang with you more. Same for Deb ... aside from our quick intro ... I can tell you are a nice, friendly outgoing person.
SpinBob, I know I ran ... I would have liked to talk to you some more ... loved your earring!!!!
Had a bit of a rough time last week and was not holding any kind of attention span for very long and didn't even take a lot of spinning classes but am very glad I went.
I hope I can spend more time with you all in the future!

Hey Renee...I saw you today, however, you were talking to somebody and kinda walking away. It was awesome to have met you, as well, however briefly.

So I think I am recovered and ready to ride today. I don't have a class but really just want to ride. Still trying to absorb all the new stuff I learned from all the sessions (other formats too). You think you will remember all the routines but then you just can't. I've got to remember all the abs stuff. They were incredible.

AC sorry we couldn't make arrangements. We will have to make a trip to the city another time.

Stuff like that I try to block out. THAT my friends was SCARY!!!!!

As well as weird stuff you see, there's weird stuff you hear that's scary too.

Not naming any names.....but if by the end of the Friday workshops anyone'd gotten the idea from a Spinning source that cardiac drift was the result of "heart muscle fatigue" resulting in inefficient pumping and consequent increase in heart rate (commonly called heart failure when it actually does happen) you can afford to disregard it.

It wasn't too long ago that it was my daughter telling me to "let it go" when I ranted about this sort of misinformation.....it was my turn on Friday.

Hi All:

I have to say that I am sorry that I didn't get to meet all of you on Saturday - I was a little fried from Friday. Everything hurt (and I mean everything! LOL) And Sunday I didn't get there till 10:00 (my first session was Elegant Strength w/Petra Kolber - she's so nice) and then I observed the Recovery Ride with Josh at 12:00. I stayed for a little while and saw Joy - you are so sweet - it was great meeting you for that short time - and then I left. I was supposed to be in 2 more rides, but I had had enough. I barely recoverved from Friday.

Maybe next year at ECA - when I create a more manageable schedule for myself I can meet all of you! The dates for next year are Feb 27-Mar 1. Same place.

Think I am ready to ride 2nite myself. Too bad it's like butt-numbingly cold out.

Worked with my personal trainer 2day but warned him that the legs might be quite fatigued. When I got to the leg press and squats...they were fried. No worries...I didn't fry my upper body or abs this weekend and was fine doing the inner and outer thighs!!!

I'll see how I feel 2nite (not teaching). I know she's teaching Endurance but if I have to take it to Recovery, I will.

Again, great meeting everyone. How lucky are we all?????

It really is impossible to remember everything we learned, especially on the bike. You just have to be you.

BTW...

I know we don't get alot of Star Points for this Conference but we're supposed to get some, aren't we?

Will we automatically get them or do we have to apply for them?

Deb the conference sheet that came in the green zipper folder (it's purple) you fill in with the course you took sign and submit to Madd Dog. I think you get 5 for the entire conference as long as you take one Spinning session. If you aren't sure still - call me.

I did legs today - I rocked them. Heavy and hard.

Yo John, we're waiting for your pics with the new niece.

I'll get some pics with her at some point and post them for you all. Here are pics of her and her proud parents (my niece and her husband). She was a preemie so she's pretty small -- a little shy of 6 lbs. Such an adorably frail little girl! :)

Is there anything more precious? Is this your first stab at being a "great uncle", John?

And may I add that my paternal grandmom & her twin sister (my great aunt), were the 2 most stablizing influences in my chaotic informative years.

Yep, first time. I have to be careful about making fun of my sister for being a grandmother. Neither of us is old enough for this. :o
