View Full Version : John Adams - HBO
This isn't good...It's great. If you missed the first 2 parts, catch up with it during the week. I could have sat and watched all 8 hours in a row.
I was riveted and I know what's going to happen anyway.

I loved this as well. The first nearly 4 hours flew by! It'll be available on HBO On Demand today if you missed it.
How refreshing, politicians who were actually in it for the good of country!

Thanks, I don't know if HBO can ever top "Rome" but I dig history so I'll catch it in between homework.

We had company last night & couldn't watch, but we've got it recorded. The book was fantastic & the previews looked great. Glad to hear it wasn't a disappointment.
Alex, did you watch The Tudors? Lots of fun.
A bunch of riders were talking about this prior to class today. I need to check it out. Sounds amazing.

My TV time is minimal right now (I do manage to watch Dirty Jobs on Discovery but that's about it...) since I'm taking two classes in school and all... but I've heard is very good so I will have to get it on Netflix... I assume it's on netflix... right?

It's a Showtime Series on last year. It's about to come back for its second season. Not sure if it's available on DVD or not. Pob'ly. The first season followed Henry VIII's hot pursuit of Ann Boleyn. Guess we have to wait until the upcoming season to see how that turns out.

You'll have to give up soft core porn at 11PM thru 3AM (Skinemax) but HBO is much better original programming.

There is still Real Sex on HBO. Caught this series and am having a fun time trying to find all the actors that I know in it. There is a pretty damn good line-up there. Hey this Sunday is a new show looking forward to being in front of the TV at that time. One other thang... did the way they got everyones approval for accepting a Constitution proclamation just make you grin or what? Jersey and NY were beginning to piss me off :D

I'm kind partial to Taxicab Confessions, but I do like when Real Sex visits nudist colonies. I feel a lot better about myself.
Here in NJ, we are still considering that Constitution thing. Then again, we still consider it "The Ten Suggestions".

Mr. P has the afternoon off so we're going to snuggle down & finally watch this. I'm a direct decendant to 2 signers -- Benjamin Rush & Richard Stockton. I'm curious to see if they will be in the series. Richard Stockton was the first Governor of NJ. Benjamin Rush was an interesting guy -- a doctor. He was an advocate that mental illness what exactly that -- an illness. Granted, he was still bleeding people long after it fell out of practice, but you can't have everything.

Ok, I finally had a chance to sit down last night a watch part of the show... it is very good... I'll have to get in on Demand and watch the whole thing.
Pall Giamatti does an excellent role as John Adams.

Yeah, riiiiiight. Back when we were looking at colleges for my son, someone told me about scholarships available for decendants. I looked into it and I think my son could apply for a $50 grant. LOL!

I've read the book twice. Currently, I'm reading a book by Joesph Ellis (American Sage) which looks at the personality, philosophy(view of man) and inner machinations of John Adams.

By the way, for those of you interested in catching this mini-series from the beginning, it will be on Friday April 4 back-to-back episodes since the beginning at 6:00pm.
I hope to get my homework sorted, and be available to sit through the entire thing... :-)

It's all on HBO On Demand though too, isn't it?
Last night's was reallllly good. I thought the focus on Abigail and John's relationship was excellent and the swearing in of Washington was funny. I wonder was he really that soft-spoken?

Although he rarely spoke, Washington's presence was always felt during the Continental Congress. He left the orating to Adams, et als. While he wasn't as well schooled as Adams, Jefferson or Madison, there was no other figure among the thirteen original colonies that could've held the infant democracy together during the first 8 years of the republic. Perhaps the most famous speech in American History, Washington's farewell, was co-authored by Madison and Hamilton (with serious edits by Washington) more than 4 years prior to leaving office. He assumed one term would be enough for him.
