I loved reading the comments below it too. My favorite, from anon. 117:

"if you are truly a novice road racer, you already have all the skills to make crashes happen, you may just not be conscious of it. Let your mind wander, your ass will follow.

Good luck!"

Agreed. I liked this one:

OpenYourEyes (http://www.blogger.com/profile/12916753908710408614) said... Or the best one, drop out and start bitching about how the "f_cking idiots don't know how to hold their line and they kept hammering me into the barriers, so I said 'f_ck this'". "Plus," its essential to add, "I am rehabing my acl and I'm not about to take a header for a bunch of weekend warriors."

One of my favorite parts of those group rides is listening to everyone talk carp back at the ranch.

... that this exact post appears on a different blog, with a day's later post date. Do y'all know anything about it?

I've been plagiarized several times, and I hate seeing it happen to others. I left comments on each of them to bring it to someone's attention if it's bad news....

Other than that, it was an enlightening piece. I don't think I will ever road race as a result, not that I was in a hurry to start.... :D

Happy days,
Krista

Super funny. Thanks for sharing. Have sent it on to a couple folks.

Hey, I just checked that out and left a comment too - yours was still in the "moderators" dock - not posted. What is up with that? Thanks for picking that up - how'd you do that?

I noticed that some of the commenters have funny names like "Sychophantic Backstabber" and "Napolean Bonerpants"! I wish I had thought of these.

I googled "primal jersey joke" cuz... well, cuz I didn't get it (total indoor rider only!) and happened to open up the other link. (BTW, if anyone can explain the bit about the jokes on primal jerseys, I'd be grateful as I found no satisying explanations....)

Also bizarro is that the first blog is blogrolled on the second blog... Must. Get. to. the Bottom... of. this.....

Well, I'm obviously not in the know because I've a Primal "Where the Wild Things Are" jersey in my closet.

Krista, Primal is a company that makes all kinds of novelty jerseys -- jokey graphics, etc. I guess they are not considered suitable for oh-so-serious cyclists. I happen to not like them because they are made like carp. And beside, I give the serious cyclists much more to laugh about than my wardrobe!

Oh my goodness! I had no idea. I bought two of these "Where the Wild Things Are" jerseys in a $10 bin at the Swap and Save a couple months back for my two boys - 4 and 8. They LOVE them. Guess I'm setting them up to be biking losers!

I just went back to check if our comments were posted and, guess what, the whole cut-n-paste post is gone. Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out.

I checked the suspicious site this morning as well and noticed it had been removed... Gotta wonder how much of his other material is plagiarized?

Thanks for the info about the jerseys. I saw one Primal that is a wedding dress top?!?!? Wondered why anyone would ever wear it. However, I can see why occasionally you might want to be a little crazy and wear one of their other options, but at least I know now. If I ever do take to the streets, I will not enter a race and I will not wear a goofy top.

:D

Well there's probably a hierarchy of dorkiness... 4 & 8 year olds on the bottom, a 52 year old woman at the very top.

Actually there are levels of dorkiness and I think you are OK, around level 2, very minimal dorkiness. I've found some scientific research supporting my claim. On the Y-axis is the level of dorkiness, 0 being nothing and 5 being the highest, supreme dorkiness. On the X-axis is age. If you are truly concerned, you can wait about 10 years to sport the shirt and dorkiness will start dropping again. By age 65, you will be at level 1, where you really shouldn't give a crap, i.e. as close as you can get to no dorkiness.

I think my kids are safe for the time being. As long as I don't buy any of these shirts in a larger size...

Phew, close one. Maybe I can commission Primal to put this graph on a jersey...

Yes, but I'm a little concerned about the control group for the data. It may have only included women and children. I think men tend to hold on to their ego/concern for dorkiness longer then women. Maybe if they just put it on the women's jerseys.
