Does anyone know if I can create a montage of footage from various stages of the Tour that I own in DVD form for my upcoming Livestrong Day Spin Class or are these DVD's not copyable?

Hey, I do a lot of amateur video editing. I've always used Pinnacle Studio DV. I just bought the new version since you reminded me that I need to do a baby video for my new nephew. I'll get the rebates from Amazon and it will run around $60. If the software did not recognize the DVD format, I would play it on the DVD on the TV and then record it to video tape (I have an older camera) and then use the firewire (or USB 2, depends on your camera) to go from camera to laptop/PC. That's a real ghetto way to do it so I'm hoping the newer software would just recognize the DVD (and am pretty sure it will).

So you'll need some editing software. Pinnacle Studio DV seems to have mixed reviews on Amazon but I know how to use the product well. There are others out there.

I have a cool idea for a Tour de France editing effort. You take your DVD footage. You also film another set of footage containing class members riding. You use a green screen (I have one) so that you can pull the faces and bikes out of the class member footage and place them in the TDF. I would love to see some of the riders whizzing by Lance, perhaps slapping him on the a*s.

Anyway, below is a link to a larger home video (about 2 minutes). I did for my brother's wedding to give you some idea what this type of software can do. It is about 2 minutes and is a roast. I'm combining multiple footage folks shot, pictures, text, transitions, music, etc:

Koko that was hilarious, you and your family are a crazy bunch so now I see where your posting charm comes from. I love your idea about filming the class and placing them in the footage, unfortunately I am so way in already over my head with this thing (ability wise) that unless you live real close and come and do it for me ,if I try and do it I might be the next one jumping off the Tappen Zee Bridge. Which by the way if you've heard of it, you might be close enough to come and help me.

Sandy, what about using your camera phone and just taking their picture and dowloading that?

I doubt that would look so good on a bigger screen. Poor resolution, I'm thinking. Ditto for the video that I posted. Since it is on the web, I always cut it down size-wize and render it to a smaller file size, sacrificing resolution for size. Then I keep a master *.avi version that is much larger.

You might be able to take a couple seconds from a phone video and intermingle it with better stuff. That would probably work.

Yes, we have a lot of fun together. Nope, not sure where the bridge is...

I have yet to get a classroom with video screen but, when I do, I'm sure I'll be eating up monumental amounts of time (just like do hunting down music...) trying to find ways that will work. Will keep you posted!
