Haven't taken it but they just hosted the workshop at my facility and the feedback I got was that it was a brutal 3 days, so be prepared.

thats what i keep hearing. i also heard we are videotaped during the training and are critiqued by our fellow trainees, which i'm sure is GHASTLY, as well as video taping ourselves instructing a class after the training to get our cert. ugh, to have to sit and watch myself on a videotape is frightening.

I am BodyPump certified Les Mills version of Group Power. The process sounds the same. The 3 days for our Certification was pretty tough!:o By the end of the 3 days the tops of my feet hurt. With that said, I would do it all again without a doubt. I learned a ton about coaching and how to be a better instructor in both rooms. Video taping yourself teaching a class is a very useful tool that I recommend to everyone to do at some point. I found it very hard to watch myself on tape but I learned a lot by doing it!
Go, have fun and be a sponge while your there. You'll be glad you did.:D

Lilac, I took the Group Power certification training back in October. As Abby mentioned it's 3 days of hard work. Not much sitting around. You get to do a couple of full classes - split into groups and teach to each other. You get a track assigned to you which you have to teach to the whole class 2-3 times, so you do have to memorize your bit - no notes. And yes, you are video-taped and everyone including the workshop instructor get to critique you - all in the best possible way. It is horrible to see yourself, however, it shows your technique, and allows you to work on what needs correcting, and not worry about what is good.
Once you complete the certification training, you'll need to practice, practice, practice as you have I think it was 8-10 weeks for you to do your taping for certification. They are sticklers for form, and keeping to the beat.
I don't teach it, as it just didn't work for me - I'm not one to be constrained.
Don't freak, just go with an open mind and ready to learn and experience a different way of teaching.
