View Full Version : The Dark Knight
If you haven't been one of the milllions to see it, get there. All 3 male stars are great and Heath Ledger is absolutely terrifying as the Joker.
This is not a Batman movie for kids.
Home Run.

Thanks for the review, ACE. I have been wanting to see this but was going to wait until the initial craze dies down. It's on the list for sure.

Does the movie have a Spinable soundtrack?
This Saturday is my week to SPin with the guy who runs the pojectors at the local Cinema. I'll have to see what he says about the film.

It's a Hans Zimmer soundtrack. If you're familiar with his prolific work, Gladiator, etc., you'll probably find some symphonic/type stuff to use.

hmmmm ... i'll consider it Bob, but dont think i can stomach Katie Holmes. Her little baby voice drives me up the wall! ( i know ... i'm no baritone, but as Phil would say, it just grates my cheeze!)

Y.If you rent it, you can easily zip through the scenes she's in and not miss a thing. Liam Neeson and Michael Caine more than make up for Katie.

In the context of that movie, surrounded by Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine and Christian Bale, her role is interesting, as Bruce Wayne's friend/tortured love interest, is really just a working actor's role. They embellished the journey of young Bruce Wayne into Batman in the first movie and that sets up his relationship with the DA character that Katie Holmes plays in Batman Returns. If an actor's just wierd, I can live with that. If they go "Mel Gibson", that's when I just skip the work.
As an aside, if you ever want to really take a trip into comic literature, read "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller, who wrote "300", which was a huge hit movie last year. I remember buying this for my son in 1997 and couldn't put it down myself. But, I'm comic book biased, having been reading Batman for about 50 years. They're called "graphic novels" now.
If the film is good, you see and hear characters, not actual actors, if they're doing their job properly in context of a good screenplay.

Frank Miller is first and foremost one of this country's biggest names in comics and he's making a name for himself in movies now. Frank wrote and drew the comic book version of 300, then he turned it into a movie, much the same way as he wrote and drew the comic version of Sin City, before it became a movie.
If you're going to journey down the Frank Miller graphic novel path, I suggest you start with Dark Knight, then pick up Dark Knight Returns, since it's the sequel. Another interesting Frank Miller graphic novel is Ronin, which has nothing to do with the DeNiro movie of the same name.
