I just realized, I use a crockpot all winter long, but rarely use a recipe! Sorry. I don't think you could ruin a stew if you tried.

Oh, also remember they are perfect for keeping food warm during parties. I've got 3 of them for just that reason.

Nothing like plopping a whole chicken in a crock, a little onion, no water or broth and let er rip. You will have the juiciest chicken ever. I've also done a pork loin w/ apple juice and chili's but recipies I'd have to find for you.

I make this in the winter -- my niece calls it "Auntie P's mush-mush" :).

Add brown rice, quinoa or pearl barley (about 1 to 1-1/2 cups) to bottom of crock pot. Add enough chicken broth to cook grains (which will vary according to which grain you use); a can or two of cream of mushroom soup (I use the Campbell's Healthy Request brand) and chicken pieces (breast meat or thighs). Season to taste (I normally add garlic, salt, pepper and perhaps a bay leaf). To this, you can add whatever fresh veggies you like (we like mushrooms, onions, broccoli, sometimes spinach -- spinach should be added near the end of cooking time and cooked just until wilted). I know this sounds a bit odd, but it is really good, and it's different every time I make it.

Enjoy.

Going to try this recipe.

Anything with a can or two of cream of mushroom soup works for me.

Everyone from my kids to my 85 yo father in law loves this one:

Take 2 boxes of beef broth, a package of lean stew beef, a bag of "stew veggies" (the one with the okra, etc), and box of barley (not quick cooking). Cook on low 8 hours or more, salt and pepper to taste. Great for those cold nights when everyone has soccer practice!

It is very very simple, maybe boring. BUT, i buy whole chickens when they are on sale. I plop them in my crock pot and cover with an envelope of dry italian seasoning mix OR ranch dressing seasoning mix- i don't add any fluid at all. i cook it all day on low and then take all the meat off, vacuum seal it in 4 or 8 oz portions and then freeze. then, when my husband or i want a quick chicken salad or sandwich the meat is ready to go. it is super easy and super yummy. :p

Hey girl! Yep - one thing I actually look forward to about cold weather is getting out the crock. Can't wait to try the whole chicken thing - I never know what the heck to do with those guys!

Miss your class - things are crazy but hope to make it in soon. Take care!

Easy pulled pork:

4 - 5 lb pork roast (lean)
2 cups of apple juice
1 capful of liquid smoke
crushed red peppers (optional)
salt to taste.

Throw it all in the crockpot and cook on high for 8 - 10 hrs. Separate with fork and serve on rolls, tortillas, or alone. Good stuff!

Sure does!

Seriously, though, this is my favorite site for crock pot recipes (actually for all recipes!). The reviews are invaluable. I've got this_one (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Zesty-Slow-Cooker-Chicken-Barbecue/Detail.aspx) going in my crock pot right now, and the slow_cooker_chicken_and_dumplings (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Chicken-and-Dumplings/Detail.aspx) recipe is a family favorite.

LMAO too, heck Megs can just cook up the bean recipe above, catch one of his friends, do a little grilling and toss it all together at the end! A perfect meal that he can eat out on the deck and smack his lips so all the other squirrels know he's eating their cousin in his beansquirrel stew!!!!! The word will get out and none of them will want to get anywhere near his house for fear of ending up in the crockpot! :p

have this Chili, sitting on my kitchen counter right now (See the picture). I make this recipe about once a week. Why? Because my family loves it!
I am not a cook, I go by what is healthy, smells good and taste good. Sorry:grin:

2 cans of 12.5 Chicken Breast drained. You can use fresh chicken but I don’t have that much time.

1 large Jar of Randall Great Northern White Beans 48 oz. If you can find them. If not any other brand will do. I just think that the Randall brand is the best.

18 oz of Mild Salsa
1 Can of fat free Chicken broth
1 tablespoon Cumin
2 Cubs of low fat or Fat free Colby, Jack Cheese.

Place all the ingredients in the Crock-pot and heat until cheese I melted.
I eat it by itself but my family likes to eat it with the Baked low fat Tostitos (Picture)

That stuff is GOOD!
