Twitter?

Can someone explain to me what Twitter is? Is it like a facebook thingy or is it instant messenging? Was on the Astana website and it has a thing to follow Lance on Twitter so I logged on but now I have emails that say so-and-so on Twitter following you on Twitter? Sounds kinda creepy.

It does sound kinda creepy BUT it's the next big thing. It's safe, no one can 'really' follow you (unless you give out information about where you are I guess). I am looking into it and will definitely sign up soon. It will be as big as Facebook.

From a personal standpoint, I mean the average person, I am not sure yet of the applications (except just telling your friends what you're doing on a moment by moment basis). But it has HUGE PR applications for businesses, bloggers, presenters, or anyone who wants to grow an audience. There isn't a single internet marketer or coach (that I know of) that doesn't "tweet" (what they call when you send a Twitter announcement.
