I got a new iPod nano for Christmas and although I've had several in the past my itunes has never been set up in an ideal, organized way. My kids and DH got in there way back when and things got changed, moved around, etc (). I had the stuff on my iPod I wanted for my personal use but used my Cakewalk program to do my rides so didn't spend much time back tracking my itunes. That all being said, now with everyone older and having their own itunes on their own laptops, I'd like to get mine in a good, logical order to use for classes and for my personal use. I have taken everything out of my itunes library and am transfering music in that I'd like to have, (not the personal favorites of my 20 somethings ;)), and since itunes has updated more than a few times since I first got started with it, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for how to best get it reorganized now. I do have the current itunes version and I also have "my" music in a folder ready to transfer in. Thanks!

Ya know I ran into that problem and then I bought a lap top. Look I don't
"organize" my music by genre or style type, but it was in so many folders.
So When I bought my lap top I copied all my music into one "Music" Folder
It is up to ME to KNOW my music and find a tune I want. That's my style & what I do. Beatport music is all listed by DL number. Most of the rest is listed
by artist. I have hmm 8-9 Gigs of music and have little trouble NOW finding what I want
Lately I've been burning 1-2 profiles per week, using my newest tunes, freshest in my mind, then filling in the holes with older tunes I which I scroll thru by artist name.
Not real organized but works for me

I have iTunes, but I don't use it for mixing music. I use MixMeister, and build playlists by BPM's that suit my purpose, and by using "Find Similar Tracks" to find songs that flow nicely. Then I export my playlist back to iTunes as a 45 minute song so that it's on my iPod to use in class.
Unfortunately, between spinning and BodyPump, I don't get the chance to listen to music for pleasure much anymore. So rarely that when my husband catches me doing it, he comments on it and says how nice it is. :p

Jennifer,
I use itunes to rating (1 to 5 Stars). 5 stars indicates that I have used a song in a class. 4 are song I would like to use and so on.
I also try and use the genres to indicate how I might use the song speed, climb, and so on.
