View Full Version : How bout a skydrive tree

What do you think? Beatport?

Pick 5 songs

upload them to skydrive--send me your skydrive username and each person can share the folder with the specified user list (or everyone if they desire)

What do you think?? Is there a better way to do this?

I'm sure the folks with skydrives may be interested, but I don't know how many people that includes. I don't have one.

How does one procure a Skydrive?? I would love to be part of a Skydrive tree if I had a Skydrive and if nobody minded my pedestrian taste in music.:D

OK...I'm in...new Beatport selections? Old Beatport selections?

I've got about 40 to 60 Beatport selections. I'd rather get new stuff. Perhaps if we take different genres they have and buy the Top 5 sellers? Put them up and share?

New Beatport songs--I like the idea--here are the genres from Beatport, caim a genre, buy the top five songs(or 5 that you like from their top d/l list), post on your skydrive. If you claim/buy a genre, pm me with your skydrive name so everyone can have access to the files. I'll take trance...any other takers??

I've never used Beatport but I'm sure I can figure it out. Sign me up for whatever nobody else wants. Just opened my Skydrive last week.

I'm not sure which of the "house" categories Abby selected, but I'm shopping "Progressive House" right now and uploading into a public "Beatport Tree" folder.

And here it is.

I'm getting a backbone and taking "Drum & Bass". I will choose 5 and post on my Skydrive tomorrow. Wh8, are you going to keep our skydrive addresses and share them with those participating in the tree or can we just post here and let whomever wants to grab the songs grab them? I really don't care one way or the other but, heaven forbid I should make a cyber-faux-pas!:o

Sky drive has ben acting up in the last few weeks. Just ask Pink or Amy if you have any doubts on that end. :) We've tried reloading songs and sometimes it avoids the problems of not being about to download but not always. You'd be better off using Yousentit links and or finding someone to host them on his/her personal website. Since most webhosts give ou 10 megs of space this shouldn't be a problem. Just getting the files to the person might be for some... unless you give the users FTP access info. Hey AC I can't download from your link. just goes to quicktime and then there's nothing.

Download the entire folder as a zip file. Save it and then unzip (that is not meant to be inappropriate).

'Kay. I just finished uploading 5 songs into my Skydrive under "Beatport". Here's the link:
http://cid-2121e8f636cfe614.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public

Here's the deal, I know I chose Drums & Bass but I only found 2 songs that I could stand. I pulled a song from "Indie Dance", one from "Tech House" and one from "Breaks" to total 5. In all honesty, this is not my favorite type of music and spending $11 for 5 songs seems a little much. I think I'm going to get off this ride now. If anyone wants to start a Skydrive tree that is not limited to Beatport, I'm in.

FYI...Beatport is high end DJ/Dance Mixes. All the songs are $1.49 to $2.49. It's a specific genre/interest. The Drum and bass is really for over dubbing. I'll post a bunch more from Beatport later in my folder so you have a better selection. You shouldn't have buyer's remorse.

Thanks, AC. I found the Beatport site very interesting, actually. This is a new area of music for me and I am a true music lover so I have no buyer's remorse. I checked out a couple of the songs in your Beatport file and really liked them so obviously I was looking in the wrong sections. Never knew about "Drums & Bass" and its purpose - loved the title and thought it would be cool...until I listened to some of it:o. I don't know what I was expecting - maybe African drum/world music - but egad! Every song sounded exactly the same! (Now that I know it's used for over-dubbing, it makes total sense). Anyway, this is a learning experience so definitely not a waste. However, I do think I am ill-equipped to choose appropriate songs to share when I know absolutely nothing about the genre. Now that I'm signed up with Beatport, I'll continue to check things out and will jump back in when I'm "schooled".

Look in my Beatport folder and you'll find other songs we exchanged about a year ago when we tried this for the first time via CD and snail mail.

And anyone else. I'll leave it unlocked for a few weeks.

I didn't even know I had 25G available on Skydrive. I should be more of a sharing person, but I have a reputation to maintain.

Zip the entire folder. It takes a few seconds to load, so a little patience. Otherwise I'm not sure what's wrong. But PM me an email and I'll send them later or Wednesday, 1 at a time.

Nope, it's not just you. There's no "zip" option or anything. I ended up writing down the song names and listening to them directly on Beatport. Something is definitely funky here. I got wh8's no problem. Did mine work?

Zipping the whole folder is not offered as an option. I don't think it's patience in this case. You may want to try and reload them. I'm PMing you now. Do you ever use YOUSENDIT?

thanks

FYI: on the SkyDrive zipping is not a option. You can load a zipped file to the site but you can't zip the folder from the Skydrive. As I posted the other day. Some files are just picky it seems. It also depends on how the files are loaded: using the ativeX feature or the normal load them one at a time option.

wh8sox
03-04-2009, 09:46 PM
AC and I chatted this am. The zipping feature is only available to the owner.

I have tried his files several times today in both folders--check out my folder i am getting his to work--

Too bad skydrive is not so reliable...I think I figured it out--hit refresh and immediately try to d/l the file before the security code or address of the file changes. Dunno why but it seems to work. anyway I got all five moved over to my folder--enjoy

AC

I've been able to download everyone's files, either zipping, which appears sometimes or it doesn't, or just retrying several time on different computers.

It seems like a simple process, which works and then it stalls out.

Might as well post the mix and profile here. I added the other songs to the same folder so just drop them into MM and edit off some at the end of a few songs. The cooldown songs are by a singer I saw live in Nashville at BB King's restaurant, so he's obviously a Blue's singer. When he sang the Led Zep song medley the place went crazy and then went into The Allman Bros. classic "Whipping Post". The guy is mad talented and that him on the lead guitar also.

The profile is 2 long climbs sandwiched around a simulated plateau that I throw in some paceline/passing drills (Gear up and pass is the cue). Each assault is 2 songs, same BPM. I run the ride this way (and I have cadence meters so it's a little more specific). I start them out anywhere they want to go in the saddle, adding effort (10 to 30 watts) every minute. Cadence will slow naturally, which is the oblective and there's about 13 or 14 adds. As they slow down and feel the simulated incline, I have permitted cadence to drop to as slow as 45 rpm, which is lower than I ever really cue, but it's realistic for the bottom of how slow one could go going up. If you dropped below that I threatened to tip your bike over (obviously kidding), but that's what would happen if you got slower than this and didn't either traverse to recover of get off. So when you break 45 rpm, you back off, recover and rejoin. You stand to overcome the higher resistance/wattage whenever you think you need to.

This is a class for grown-ups. And don't yak too much, the music is great so just cue the adds and remind them about the bottom level allowed for cadence...no slogging...no "galley slave pedaling".

Warmup - Morning Sunrise
First 2 trax are 1. "Heaven" and 2. "Leave the World Behind" - Going UP
3. The Hymn" - Here's the plateau - passing drills for about 8 to 10 minutes after a recovery at the top. If you want to extend this part, drop in another 140 bpm song for about 3 or 4 minutes.
Trax 4 "Light In The Night" and 5. "Trouble in Paradise" - Going Up Deux
Cooldown - Black Dog/Whole Lotta Love - and listen to the singer's description about "Big legged women"!! Follow that with Whipping Post.

All the songs are in the same folder.

I tried this one for my 45 min class--it worked.

I did Sunrise.leave the world, Hymn, right in night, trouble and black dog

I did w/u then one song going up, one song of sprints/surges/passing drills

one song going back up and one last song of surges and sprints, then C/D

very economical 6 songs!
