This has happened a couple of times and it's driving me crazy. Any time there's an iPod software update (and sometimes for no reason I can find), playlists and music on my iPod disappears. Where the heck does it go? Usually, it's also no where to be found on iTunes either.
I've downloaded Floola onto my iPod which found some of the music. I'm still missing tons. I've somehow lost most of my cycling playlists...I know, I know, I should have burned them to disk for backup, but there were issues with the computer (plus I was too lazy).
Rats. I am so bummed out by this. Does anyone have any suggestions? It also erased all of the BPM that I got from some(?) program and has messed up all of the album artwork.
On my computer, I've started using Media Monkey, but it's too little, too late. Stupid iPod or stupid me?

I've downloaded itunes software updates w/o any change to my library before. Updating to the latest version should not mess with your library, playlists or bpms. It sounds more like you are having a computer problem rather than an itunes update problem. I'm really not at all very techy as everyone here knows, so if someone else can help here.....I just wanted to let you know that I've updated without issue.
Are you using file sharing sites? The illegal kind?

I've just DL the latest iTunes with no problemo. My music is in a separate
file c://music. The playlists I have on iTunes are still there on both my computers so I would agree it's a computer issue at your end & not iTunes.
As a fitness professional, you can't be lazy about backing up music. I have had two crashes but my music files were saved. Music is backed up on my main computer on my lap top. Also I back it up on a removable Seagate hard drive and finally on line by MOZY, 3 ways. I can't afford to loose my music.
I sub for a MI who has had numerous crashes & lost music.

I'm doing it as I type. What kind of disk would I use to burn an mp3 disk? I'd like to fit as many songs as possible. Also, my understanding is that you have to burn any itunes purchases to be able to use them any way that you'd like (other mp3 players, for example), is that right? Do you have to burn them as mp3s? Can you just burn them as a music CD? This DRM crap is driving me crazy. I downloaded some music online from the library using Overdrive and found that there's no way to put it on my ipod.
Curse my lack of tekkie knowledge
