Doesn't it look like it's going to be a really cool pal to have? It bother me that they don't have the flash player worked out for web sites which will cause problems watching videos streaming online. But I see it as really a video entertainment/learning system, just like an Ipod is a audio entertainment/learning system. Movies, TV shows, books, periodicals in color and portable.

I think the problems with the flash player can probably be solved with software/platform updates that Apple seems to be pretty good at.

I bought my wife a Kindle for Hannukah and she absolutely loves it. It's such a great device if you like to read and love the convienience and price of the books. This seems like even better, but obviously higher price and the Kindle comes with 3G connectivity.

I bought a 10" netbook last year for travel and I love it. It's less than 3 lbs. and does everything a PC does, just a tad slower. But I used to have a 15" laptop in a napsack and schlepped it on and off planes all year and this is a shoulder bag and maybe 6 lbs with stuff in the bag (cords, Ipods, small bottle of Purell). I expect the IPad should be able to do what the netbook does with a much brighter screen and longer battery life.

To me it sounds like an iphone that won't fit into my pocket (and without the phone).

More like an ITouch. Cause it comes without the ATT 3G service for $499.

But yeah. Who wants to read a book or newspaper or watch a movie on a 3.5" screen?

Size matters.

You would think sooner or later people will get all gadgeted out.

If history is a lesson to us about the apple products they have a inaugural price that soon comes to a drastic cut to grab more I-market share. Looking at the prices I can see them doing a down size there. They are on the spendy side right now. wonder if the apps will be the same too.

You have the Touch selling @ $199.00 and the new thing to go at $499. They have actually just increased features and memory rather than drop retail. They already saythe app selection will be equal or better. The bigger screen certainly allows for more eye friendly apps.

Turns out the iPad has been around since 2006 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eF0y0IfpPU

You may not want it after watching this!
It's guaranteed that a male decided on the name (and he's probably squirming in his executive office seat today). [NB when I first watched this yesterday, there were only 70K views).

You should have seen the hubbub on Twitter after the launch. #itampon was a trending topic (meaning millions of people were mentioning it)

Failed Name aside, I see a pretty big market for this. It would have been perfect for my mother and her limited computer skills.
App developers are going to have a field day with this. Anyone have aspirations for another hobby? Some app creators made millions on iPhone apps!

I'm sure one of these will soon wind up under my roof. And it won't be mine. But that's OK, I still buy CDs and get books out of the library (big building, lots of books).

I do want to upgrade my Razr for an iphone as soon as it's compatible with Verizon.
